Noooo, yesterday was WORLD SPARROW DAY and I missed posting a Sparrow picture. Here it is, a teenage House Sparrow on a red roof. :-)

Please note that Sparrows are declining in numbers worldwide. Although you might think there are (too) many, they are on the brink of being redlisted. Loss of habitat and breeding grounds are the number one reasons for the unfortunate decline. Please also keep in mind that Sparrows feed on seeds and insects and won’t be able to raise enough healthy offspring on bread, popcorn, rice and other human food. :-(

If you can, please establish a feeder with grains/seeds and a bird bath and create safe nesting opportunities for your beloved backyard chirpers. Planting trees/bushes and not cutting it all down can help as well as not using chemical insecticides and fertilizers.
