Here are all of the bits and pieces I drew and painted as part of my design for the Film Academy in Mitchells vs the Machines. The shot of the door features one of my few crappy off model drawings of Katie Mitchell lol. I always have to remind myself that doing VISDEV is not just making big epic paintings. Every thing you see also requires a ton of callouts, props and technical drawings in order to execute something in 3d. This is even more true (so I’ve been told) on the films I’ve been a part of ( Mitchells vs the Machines and the not yet released Across the Spiderverse and TMNT Mutant Mayhem). The Aesthetics of all 3 of these films require a ton of extra artistic and technical work outside of the standard 3D animation pipeline, especially at the beginning of a production when things are being figured out. We have to do a ton of detailed work that gets replicated almost 1 to 1 in 3d. Anyway, here is some of that stuff.
