It's actually so significant that barely any of the Yellowjackets seem to have living siblings or parents when we meet them as adults. Jackie's parents are still alive, most people's parents are still alive when they are in their 40s. We know Nat's mother is alive but is very, very bad at being a mother, same for Lottie's dad. All of the rest are unspoken for, Van says her mother died of cancer but that was a cover so who knows what the truth is. Shauna and Tai didn't seem to have bad relationships with their parents, so where are they? We know absolutely nothing about Misty's family so no clue there. Maybe they have cut them off in their efforts to stay silent on everything that happened, refusing to open up even to the people that raised them. It emphasises how alone and isolated they all are.
