— FAIREST OF THEM ALL.

“I like to share nature with those who appreciate it, and sharing with a kindred soul isn’t something that happens as often as I would like in the city.” Persephone commented, her mother and her would often spend their six months together in the country walking across wide open fields as they worked.  City life never fit them, but Persephone was quite happy with anything other then the underworld.  At the end of every six month stint, she just longed for the sun and didn’t mind where.  

                       “ who wouldn’t appreciate it ? ” she comments fondly, her thumb brushing a rose petal with a gentle manner that could only be compared to caring for a newborn. lena understands how bias she is, speaking like that. it’s uncontrollable however. all of her fondest memories, of lex, of boarding school, of freedom, either revolved inside a garage inventing or outside in a garden. “ i really do hope i could give something in return besides my gratitude, ” a frown forms on her lips, quickly disappearing to form a much more neutral expression.

she  had  never  had  this conversation  before,    not  with  anyone  she  didn’t  truly  know,   or  completely  trusted.    the  brunette  in  front  of  her  did  not  seem  like  a  threat,   or  like  someone  who  would  hurt  her—   on  the  contrary,   she  seemed  genuinely  interested  on  what  had  happened  to  her  and  her  friends.   clearing  her  throat,   sue  decided  to  relax,   the  more  tense  she  was,   the  more  undesired  accidents  would  occur.     “ we  were  test  pilots  on  this  mission,   then  something  happened  to  the  ship  we  were  in—   more  specifically  some  kind  of  cosmic  radiation   ;   we  all  got  hit  at  the  same  time,   each  with  different—   well,   abilities,   you  could  say. ”     she  still  didn’t  know  the  right  word  for  this.    they  were  good,   but  could  also  be  bad,    depending  on  how  you  saw  it.   depending  where  you  stood.

“  to  answer  your  question—   it’s  more  like  voluntary  camouflage,   along  with  force  fields   …   though  they  make  me  extremely  tired,   fatigued  after  using  the  latter, ”     sue  spoke,   a  gentle  shrug  after  her  words.    she’d  been  using  her  powers  for  a  few  years  now,   but  she  learned  something  new  about  them  everyday.     “ brain  activity  lights  up  like  a  christmas  tree, ”     she  chuckled.     “ lunch?   oh—   well,   yeah,   that’d  be  really  nice,   it’s  nice  to  meet  you—   i’m  susan,   everyone  calls  me  sue,   i  like  sue  better, ”     the  blonde  pressed  her  lips  together  in  a  shy,    yet  grateful  smile.     “ so,   lena,   you  seem  to  understand  a  great  deal  of  science. ”

                      cosmic radiation. her knowledge on astrophysics & the like are limited to the textbooks she’s read during the night, & even then, those books were neglected for sci-fi movies & her work. lena mentally promises to read more on the topic, to understand how cosmic radiation could affect the human body. there’s no advantage for her learning about it, par knowledge. she knows better than to recreate sue’s camouflage capabilities, not when every move she makes is compared to her brother & considered villainous, not when camouflage inventions can only be used in military & nefarious purposes.

                       “ physical and/or mental fatigue ? ” lena notes the information, her mind racing with question after question, though she keeps her mouth shut. later. her manners may have been lacking due to her excitement but she now has a grasp of it. offer food, offer company, then ask everything else. “ great ! i know this new italian restaurant a few blocks down. if you’d prefer to try that ? ” red lips form a softer smile & a similar red slowly forming on her fair cheeks as she brushes off her comment, “ i dabble from time to time... i’m sure it’s nothing compared to your work. test piloting a space craft... that’s... wow... ”
