That Place Where I Put Pictures

One of the neat things about ice in the winter is the shapes that it can form. Getting to see it from above only emphasizes how interesting it can be.

Winter is in full swing (actually today was a few degrees warmer than the past week or so). I didn't realize how much ice was floating out in the water past the shore.

Special shout out to the ship's crew who were supposed to be done for the season 20 days ago.

It adds an interesting extra level to experimentation when not only can you move farther from side to side, but there is also 120m of vertical range to explore. Using this spot on the river let me try angles that ranged from being almost a straight-down view to looking out far enough that you can see a sliver of the harbour. I'm looking forward to playing around more (you know, when the winds stop blowing anywhere from 50-90km/h).

Hopefully I'll have some non-ship photos to share soon. I love ships, but I like taking pictures of other stuff too. I'm especially looking forward to capturing a variety of subjects with the drone. The main problem is, to fly it I need to have free time at a point when the temperature aren't too cold, the winds aren't too strong, and it isn't snowing. It's hard to get all of those at once.

Autumn isn't the best time to see waterfalls with a lot of flow, but it can be a great time to walk the trails.

People who live in places where freighters spend time often complain about how rough they look, but I like seeing the signs of their work. It's hard to maintain a clean coat of paint when you spend the year constantly passing through one lock after another on the Great Lakes.

Marine engineering can create some incredible things. This ship can carry so much cargo that it can't actually come in here unless it's empty.

It's an interesting sight to see a boat that's over 700 feet long slowly spin around so it can back into a harbour. The geese were a nice bonus.

I can't imagine wanting to take a canoe out on the water on December 31st, but I'm glad that someone did since it gave me the opportunity to get this shot of a canoe in the foreground and a massive freighter in the distance.
