Okay so I just went to Mycenae, Greece, and while I have no proof that this is the cistern that inspired the underground temple in The Thief, I am 98% sure itâs @meganwhalenturnerâs tunnel and I could not be more excited.

Okay I know Genâs age has been discussed at length, but since I am doing a reread, I decided to keep meticulous track of the changes of the seasons mentioned in each book so that we can get a good estimate of how long each is. My conclusion is that by a CONSERVATIVE estimate, Gen is:
- 15 when he steals gift - 16 when the thing happens - 17 when he marries the queen
BUT this is assuming that the King of Eddis dies when Gen is still 10 because he was stated to be alive (although sick) in the short story Thief! where Gen is 10. So my guess is heâs probably 11 (or older) when the king actually dies. Which would make the ages:
- 16 when he steals gift - 17 when the thing happens - 18 when he marries the queen

Okay so if anyone saw my previous post about my confusion with the escape from Attolia, youâll know that my map following skills are not great, so I am posting what my interpretation of the gangâs route was in the thief and hope that people can comment theirs so I can compare

Okay okay so I was studying the map for awhile and noticed that it never says what side is north. also, in QoA (which I am now on in my re-read), it says that the river flows from Attolia through the pass to Sounis then out to the Middle sea. So my new theory is that Attolia is actually north of sounis and eddis and the map is upside down. which changes the whole upstream/downstream thing and also makes me more confused about their escape.

Hello friends! Has anyone tried to map out Genâs path in the Thief on the new map? Iâve been doing a re-read and following the map pretty closely because we finally have a map!! and some parts of it have been a little rough, but the one part that really doesnât work for me is Gen, the magus, and Sophosâ escape from Attolia.
First, when they leave, the magus says, âWe havenât been following the river downstream towards the pass. Weâve been going upstream.â This makes me assume they are here:Â
BUT then the only place this path crosses into Eddis (outside of the main pass) is here, which is along the Aracthus, and the book very clearly says they are still on the Seperchia which doesnât work.Â
So basically I am very confused and not a map-expert so I could be interpreting this all wrong, but any advice would be appreciated!!Â
Okay wait jk, I did some more reading and more thinking and I guess that technically when they cross they arenât immediately in Eddis so probably they are where I thought they were and idk maybe they cross to the north side when they cross the bridge?? or the south side?? both sort of work...and end up going along the Aracthus somewhat once they are with the soldiers on the horses because the book says âponiesâ hooves as they climbed the stone roadway that ran up the cleft in the mountains, cut by the Aracthus before its path had changed.â So probably the answer to this whole conundrum is I am both bad a reading maps and following instructions.
except at one point the book says, âits [the Seperchiaâs] far bank was a cliff face that lifted straight up to the shoulders of the mountainsâ an nowhere on that map does the Seperchia border a mountain.
