Nickname(s):
"My name is literally four letters long. If you really think you need to shorten that, go ahead, but I'm just sticking with Nova."
Species:
"Demigod."
Age:
"Fourteen."
Gender/Pronouns:
"Genderfluid. I use pretty much whatever, but he/they is usually the safest bet if you're confused."
(OOC: AFAB)
Sexuality:
"Why do you even want to know that? Mind your own business."(OOC: Pansexual)
Godly parent:
"Hecate. Goddess of magic."(OOC: Legacy of Apollo too, but it wont be revealed yet)
Powers:
"Basic Hecate kid stuff. As for anything else... why are you digging into my capabilities? I'm not giving you a manual on how to counter me."(OOC: Mist manipulation, illusions, slightly stronger light-based magic, an advanced memory, potion-making, and curses among other stuff.)
Personality:
Nova looks pretty cold, and can get somewhat prickly, but is mostly polite. They are an overthinker with high walls, but they are a total sweetheart once you get to know them. They hate being alone but also hate approaching people (moderate social anxiety, undiagnosed). They also do not let people in easily, which ends up being very counterproductive. They are a really smart child (child genius coded), but they did not really get to stay in school long enough to finish. (when they attended school, they were few grades ahead. They dropped out when they were 11 and in 9th grade)
[OOC and extra info under the cut :3]
Backstory:
Dad ditched them at birth, leaving them to grow up in an orphanage until they were 8. After that, they were dropped into the foster system. The first family blamed them for their ADHD/dyslexia (saying that they were curses cause he was a devil spawn or whatever) and tried to force-feed them fish—which they're severely allergic to—because they thought allergies were fake and they were making it up for attention. Nova chose to starve rather than eat it until they were sent back, (they still have health issues carried over from that).
The next house was a crowded, abusive nightmare run by drunks. Nova spent their time taking hits for the smaller kids, while stealing money and stuff from the foster parents to stash for later. While Nova was out one day, the foster dad beat a 6-year-old girl named Sofia—who Nova was super close to—badly enough to kill her.
The dad got arrested, and Nova was sent back to the orphanage but they ran away. They took the smuggled money, a box of their documents, hair clips (that used to be Sofia's) and a necklace that was on them when they were first dropped in the orphanage, which they later figured out turned into their weapon. Then they stayed on the run till a satyr spotted them and dragged them to camp. They were claimed late too. (They were claimed during a fight when the satyr had spotted them, by Hecate.)
They have never met/spoken to Hecate or anything so they don't have any particular history with their mother. They are also new to camp at the time of this post
(OOC - edit: I figured I should mention that there is a LOT more to the backstory, cause I like traumatizing my oc's to show my love 😃 - but more stuff will be revealed as Nova's story progresses)

Nova stood outside the door of the so-called-infirmary, taking a few breaths before steeling himself to enter and talk to whoever the 'medic' would be behind the doors (fuck he hoped it wasn't another adult, having to approach someone new was bad enough..)
Nova took a breath before knocking on the door and entering, calling out tentatively, "Uh, Hello?"
-@that-one-magic-kid
(ooc - hii :3 your oc is really really *really* cool :33 lowk I've been hesitating to do this for like weeks cause I was nervous🫣)
"hey! What's up? What's wrong? What do you need?" Sol left his yellow cup of coffee, which was definetly not the first, on top of a random scrap of paper
( OOC : heeey!! Thank you so much!! You don't need to hesitate, I love getting asks, either way I feel really honored you think he's cool!! And sorry It took me so long to answer this ask, I opened my inbox and then forgot I had any loll)
Nova was surprised at the sight of the medic being around his age but didn't have time to think about that (having already wasted time hesitating outside) pushing down his usual spike of anxiety (which was only being made worse by the fact that his throat was kind of closing up faster and faster now)
"Hi" he managed to say, "Cinnamon allergy, EpiPen pl-please" before his legs crumpled to the floor
He didn't think about his similar this was to before, when he lived with those demons, at least they never found out he had a cinnamon allergy on top of his other one. Did they find out? was that why he was having a reaction again? He couldnt think clearly-
Nova couldn't think, he couldn't breathe, and everything happening was just pushing his mind back to before.
When he felt the pressure on his leg and someone touching him he struggled, trying to get away, unknown touch had always been bad news.
not again not again notagainn-
Sol started panicking ever so slightly, but trying to seem calm to steady Nova, pulling the epipen from his thigh "hey, no, hey. It's Sol, I'm just a medic. You're safe, don't worry."
By now, the EpiPen had thankfully started working a bit, pumping adrenaline into his system, The panic cleared a bit, enough to recognize the blond hair of the person near him.
The people who hurt him hadn't been blond, the last person he knew who had been blonde was Sofia and she had been safe, so maybe this was safe too?
Nova managed to gather his wits enough to croak out despite his closing throat, "N-Not enough, tw-two" he forced out, hands clenching around something
when did he start holding something? and who was speaking softly to him? those people from before never spoke to him like this
Sol nodded, taking out another and putting It on his thigh, his voice was reassuring "you're safe, understand? You're at camp, in the infirmary. Can I hold your hand?"
Nova couldn't hear anything over the ringing of his ears, now that the adrenaline had made itself into his system his body was in overdrive; heart basically beating out of his chest, ribs aching and his whole body shaking so much he could feel it in his skull.
He registered the blond person reaching out a hand and instinctively grabbed it, flinching away from touch on any other part of his body.
if he could see and control the touch it was good, other touch was badbadbad-
"okay, I see you, don't worry." Sol pulled off the second epipen and waited for Nova to answer, letting go of Nova's hand to make him feel safer "are you alright?"
Nova half pushed himself up body shaking and still hearing his heartbeat in his skull, "Fine" he said somewhat curtly before wincing damn that was rude "Sorry" he forced out through the rawness in his throat, blinking his eyes to keep them open.
fuck he hated his stupid allergies
"D'you have ant-antihistamine?" he asked stiffly "Allergies, severe. Biphasic" he tried to explain.
Nova shakily took the pill, hesitating for a second before nodding. Usually he would force it down dry but his throat still felt painful and his breath wasn't steady enough. he would probably choke and he didn't want to add that on top of his already embarrassing situation
"Thanks-" he croaked, before awkwardly realizing he hadn't caught the medics name.
stupid allergies He cursed them mentally again.
Sol grabbed an empty cup, similar to his, and started filling it up with some water, putting It on the counter for him to grab and going back to drinking his coffee in the meantime "when you're better I'm gonna need you to tell me some basic information for the report, is that okay with you?"
Nova shakily grabbed the water before abruptly deciding that nope; he was safer on the floor and dropping down again, careful not to spill the water, but landing kind of roughly.
He winced at the pressure to his head, back and ribs, and swallowed the pill before registering the question and croaking out an "Ok"
Stupid adrenaline overdrive, stupid allergies, and stupid hecate cabin and its cinnamon he though grimly
Sol sipped his coffee again, slowly, leaving It back down and helping Nova up once he took the pill "okay, no, let me go get a room ready for you, yeah? We need to check if you're getting better, so you're gonna go on observation, is that okay with you?"
Nova tensed for a second at the touch but forced himself to relax
he needed to get used to touching people, and he could see the touch so it was fine. yes. fine. sofia would have wanted it, she always complained that he looked too sad and needed hugs or whatever anyway
He wobbled unsteadily on his feet asking hesitantly, pale, "Ob-Observation?"
not the lab, its fine, not the stupid basement lab, probably a medical bed. shut up brain
"hey, hey, yes, its just to make sure you don't worsen up in the next few hours. You're safe here" Sol tried to make his voice as soft sounding as he could, even more than usual "how do you feel about it?"
Nova forced himself to take a breath, he hated being so freaking vulnerable but his allergic reactions always left him shaky
"Ok" he said quietly, "how long?"
despite the amount of stubborn he could be, Nova knew better (from experience) than to argue with medics, doctors, or even nurses, he would not like to be forced half conscious into a ventilator again thanks.
Nova flushed but knew that he wouldn't be able to walk. He was slightly skeptical though, Sol was taller than him (a bit) but he wasn't sure if the other would be able to hold his weight.
"Uh, Its fine I guess, but.. I'm heavier...than I look?" He said sheepishly
"don't worry, dude, Will makes me train for this kind of stuff, sometimes patients come in unconcious, so I need to have some muscle" he laughs "you sure you're okay with it? I wouldnt want to make you uncomfortable"
Nova was battling between the now (thankfully) receding panic and the absolute embarrassment he was feeling. He flushed, and mumbled not meeting the others eyes "Fine""
stupid stupid stupid allergies, fuck he really hoped his face wasnt too red this was so fucking embarrassing
Nova winced slightly as he was placed down onto the bed not meeting the medic's eyes the whole time. It was still not easy as it should have been to breath and his ribs hurt but not more than his pride.
damn he was gonna be so careful not to get hurt again cause his ego couldnt take this happening twice
"okay, dude, Im gonna go back out, you need something you just scream my name really loud, because we cant afford those buttons that call us" Sol said, already halfway out
"Okay, thanks" Nova called out watching him leave.
'Welp, time to lie down and be bored I guess ' he thought to himself wryly as he lay down properly. He figured the other would probably pop in sometime to ask about the 'information' he mentioned before.
alone again, but atleast not as lonely as before. he didnt know whether that was a good or bad thing yet

Loretta has been asked to show another new camper around. She's enthusiastic, hoping this new camper will enjoy their time at Camp as much as she does.
"Hi! I'm Loretta Dovecote." She says, introducing herself with a beaming smile. "I'm a Daughter of Aphrodite."
( @daughter-of-love-and-doves)
Nova, who had been silently cursing out the weird-goat-dude that dragged him here just to ditch him (in his mind of course, he had learned to watch his mouth a bit when he had met Sofia...even tho she was gone, old habits were hard to break) while waiting for the 'escort' that the weird-old-horse-guy had told him about, looked up startling minutely at Loretta's sudden presence.
''Hello,'' he said nodding in greeting to the older ''Nova Solari, a uh child of Hecate I guess'' And hadn't that been a surprise to find out, his apparent asshole of a dad had managed to get a goddess's attention. Not that Nova cared, he was better off on his own. (and his mother would probably not want him either. Either way, Nova was used to being unwanted)
''You're the 'escort' the uh horse guy (?) sent then?'' He asked hesitantly.
OOC: Hiiii omg I wanted to mention that I've actually read your OC intro before and she's really cool :3 tysm for interactinggg <33
Loretta laughs quietly at the bluntness. "Yeah, Chiron asked me to show you around. He's a centaur. Half man-half horse." She explains gently. "I presume you've got the whole demigod talk?"
Nova shrugged, "I don't know if you can call whatever 2 minute word vomit he gave me a 'talk' but I got the gist I think'' he replied.
"Honestly the only part that really registered properly, was apparently if I leave this place I'll increase the chances of me getting eaten'' he muttered rolling his eyes.
"That's true. I once got attacked at New York fashion week. Not an everyday experience, I suppose." Loretta says, before gesturing at Camp as a whole. "There's a magic barrier meant to keep monsters out."
Nova hummed following the older girl as she walked, "Well'', they said somewhat wryly amused, "At least this proves that something horse-guy said was true."
Nova hummed, thinking before they asked, ''there seem to be a lot of people here? what d'yall do for like food, clothes, education and shit? cause if I have to give cash and stuff to stay here I think I'd rather risk the monsters and stay on my own" they huffed uncomfortably
"Also, do the gods like...want to spend time ''bonding" (cue nova grimacing) with their kids and shit?'' they ask hesitantly
"We.... can leave camp for the school year if we wish. But there's no onsite schooling. Although the Roman camp has a university. Clothes and stuff are hand me downs, fron the camp shop or bought where ever if you're a summer camper. Living here is free." She's really thinking about this. It seems so normal to her.
"Some gods try to bond. It's rare. Most might answer a prayer, you may see them, you may not. They tend to ignore us, unless we're needed for guests."
"Oh that's ok then" Nova said somewhat relieved, "if we got a job, is leaving camp allowed for that?"
As they walked Nova also stared bewildered at...was that a wall of lava?
They didn't address the other answer, aside from a bitter thought that they were glad they didn't have any expectations: bad parents were normal for them, at least it couldn't get worse than before.
"I actually don't know...." She says slowly before realising where they were looking. "Oh that's the climbing wall. Made of lava. You can give it a go if you want, the infirmary is open."
"Mhm." Nova echoed in acknowledgement "at least I'm not gonna be the only one?" they joked weakly.
"Is there anything I have to do, cause I'm new and stuff?" They asked unsurely, "Cause I've never been to a camp before but I figure I should give like medical history records and stuff right?"
"Medical records? Do we have those here?" Loretta asks herself. "I don't think so. We mostly just use bandages, nectar, ambrosia and whatever skills the Apollo kids have."
"So have you ever been to summer camp before?" She asks gently. "I've heard this is rather like one. With more chance of injuries though. Like the lava wall."
"It's the best! Two teams - red and blue. They each have a flag. So you have to protect your team's flag, while also trying to steal the other team's flag. There's a river you have to cross with the opposing side's flag to win." She says enthusiastically. "It's really competitive."
Nova nodded listening , he hadn't really played any games before, and certainly nothing like this but he was...strangely looking forward to it.
"I might need you to gimme a run down of the rules if I play" he tells the older girl sheepishly, "cause now I'm worried about falling behind"
"That's Cabin 10, my cabin. That's 11, the Hermes cabin. Do not trust them with your money. Their father is the god of thieves. The unclaimed stay there too." She's talking, waving at people she knows. "That's the Dionysius cabin. Did you meet Mr D yet?"
"Uh, is that the weird old guy, drinking diet coke, who was with the horse-dude?" Nova asked hesitantly, before wrinkling his nose and adding, "He kept calling me Nolan..."
Nova giggled at that, surprising himself. He didn't think he was still capable of making a sound like that.
His ears reddened from embarrassment and he quickly looked in the opposite direction, willing himself to calm down.
"Uh so, how far is the Hecate cabin?" he changed the subject.
"Oh uh" Nova says nervously, "thats-thats.. really quite a lot huh"
"Does...does everyone get along well?" they asked
Having been mostly for the past few years, Nova could already feel the anxiety crawling up their throat at the mention of the large number of people. Not to mention their last experience living in a crowded place wasnt really a good one
Nova just shrugged, not saying anything.
They didnt feel upto spilling their feelings, all of that 'talk about it and you'll feel better' may work for others but when it came to him it was all useless
(Ooc: or so they think :/)
"I'm allergic to cinnamon" they say abruptly. "I'll have to tell someone, like the people incharge of food or something right?"
Nova nods and continues following the older as they walk past various cabins, unconsciously moving a bit closer as they pass more and more campers who bump into and brush past them.
Even though he hadn't known Loretta for long, she was at least more familiar then these other strangers rushing here and there. He felt a touch less nervous with her.
<how was he supposed to tell her that even the thought of having to be around so many people, none of who he knew, already made his throat constrict. Nova wasn't meant for making friends and trusting people, no wonder he couldn't even adjust to camp. And he wouldn't let himself get too close to anyone. It wouldn't be safe for anyone involved. It was his fault about Sofia anyway, he was too useless, couldn't even protect the one person who could stand to be around him and now she was gonegonegon-...>
"I'll just have to suck it up I guess" he mutters softly
He answers hesitantly, "I like listening to audiobooks? Cant really read them with the dyslexia but I used to have this old recorder that my 'dad' (He rolls his eyes here) left behind which had a lot of them on it, it broke tho. And uh, there used to be this library where I lived, I would listen to stuff on their old computer but it used to act up a lot"
"I can also play the keyboard and drums. And also use a Bo staff" He added after a moment.
He felt there would be more people who could relate to the instruments and since people here knew to fight maybe he could find someone else who uses the same weapon as him.
"Well..... I'm sure I can get a Hephestus kid to make you a listening thing. And Apollo kids are great with instruments. They're generally nice too." She says. "Weapons.... are Ares or Athena kid territory, I feel...."
"Oh! I can paint nails too" Nova says excitedly before pausing and processing the rest of what she said "Did-did you just say Pegasus? like the flying horse?" he asks in disbelief
"Maybe some other time" Nova says as he looks in the direction of her gaze and has to supress a lot of emotions he didn't want to name.
"This is it then?" he asks the older softly, nervousness leaking into his voice despite his best efforts to hide it.
Nova smiled at her thankfully before taking another breath and walking towards the cabin, turning back once to wave and smile weakly at Loretta before walking in, the door closing behind him.
