This episode of Charmed introduced a new character, Josefina. She is the girl’s cousin who is a male to female transgender. She wants to get the Book of Shadows and prove to her family that she can do magic because only biological women could have powers. She traps Macy and Jordan in an alternative universe to try to bargain Maggie and Mel for the book. In the alternative universe, Jordan is a pushover to a girl that he was dating. He and Macy are then transported to his time in Afghanistan. He interacts with his translator, Mateen, who died on his last mission. It was nice to see part of Jordan’s past since we don’t know much about it.   

Maggie and Mel tell Josefina that they do not have the Book of Shadows anymore, and they want her to get Jordan and Macy out of the spell. Josefina says she cannot get Jordan and Macy out, and the spell is becoming unstable because Jordan is cursed. Maggie and Mel combine their magic with Josefina’s brujeria to try to extend their time in the spell. Jordan can make peace with the people he sees in the alternative universe, and he also sees the Witchfinder General that started the curse on his family by killing a witch, Florence. Jordan says to Florence that he cannot change the past, but he will try to make things better, and she releases Jordan from the curse.   

Abby also helps Harry with a demonic translation for the tablet. She takes him to a demon named Fenric the Vile. He winds up being a nice person, but Abigal and Harry discover he has an amulet that changes emotions into logic, and they get infected with it. Fenric says he will give Harry the translation if he kills Abigal, and Abigail says this is okay. Harry refuses to kill her, and they take the translation for the tablet and leave. Harry and Macy say both halves of the translation, and scorpions start raining down.

I never understood what Edward meant here- I thought he could hear Alice's thoughts of craving Bella's blood and was worried she would act on her impulses, but after reading Midnight Sun I realise that Alice knew the best way to save everyone would have been to change Bella then because:

• James would have stopped tracking her, and he might have changed her himself anyway

• Edward could have died protecting Bella

• If James killed Bella, Edward would have killed himself
