Their full names are: Patton Baker, Roman Prince, Logan Banks, and Virgil Shepherd.

Patton dresses in pastel colors, though he still wears your typical punk attire.

Virgil has a hood on his jacket that he puts on whenever he feels anxious and wants to hide.

Patton was the one who sewed it on after Virgil admitted to him that hoodies made him feel safe. Virgil hasn’t gone anywhere without it since.

Patton was the one who really brought them all together as friends.

Patton and Roman had met their third year of middle school and quickly became friends.

Logan and Virgil weren’t close friends before Patton came around, but they had helped each other out of more than a few sticky situations.

Even though they could hold their own pretty well in a fight, there were still plenty of guys at their school that made it their goal to make Logan and Virgil miserable.

Once high school started the two met Roman. 

Roman didn’t get along with them at first, but he stuck to calling the other two names after catching one of their fights.

Roman was a better fighter than them, but he wanted to join the drama club, so he had to keep out of any serious trouble.

Patton had moved away for a few months so that his mother would be able to better help his aging grandmother.

Patton moved back a few months into the school year and was ecstatic to see Roman again.

It didn’t take long for Patton to notice Logan and Virgil around the school (They’re dressed like punks, so they don’t exactly blend in. Plus, Roman can’t help but look for one of them whenever he thinks up a new nickname).

Patton became friends with Virgil first, though it was anything but easy. Virgil didn’t trust him since he was friends with Roman, but Patton was very patient with him, something he wasn’t exactly used to. Patton’s presence was comforting, so Virgil found himself actively looking for him when he got to school. 

Logan was next. Patton would always ask him for help whenever he didn’t understand something in class and begged Logan to help him with his homework. The other students found it really entertaining to watch Logan walk down the hall with his hands in his pockets and a scowl on his face as Patton bounced after him with a smile on his face.

Logan finally snapped at him one day and demanded to know why he insisted on bugging him. Patton innocently responded, “Well, you’re one of the smartest people I’ve met, and it’s cool to hear you talk about things you care about, like when the teacher asked about astrology stuff the other day.”

Once Logan started helping him with his schoolwork, Patton decided he wanted to get all of his friends together because wouldn’t that be great. He knew that Logan and Virgil didn’t exactly get along with Roman, but it was worth a try.

Virgil and Logan became really close once they all started hanging out together. They each had a certain level of trust in one another already, so it wasn’t difficult to get them to be friends.

Roman however, was a challenge. He put up with them since they seemed to make Patton happy. He still insisted on calling them by different nicknames he was always thinking up though.

None of them are quite sure when Roman shifted from being just Patton’s friend to being part of their group. One day something just clicked and the four have been inseparable since.

Once they all became friends people didn’t mess with Virgil and Logan as much. A few tried to pick on Patton, but they learned quickly.

Out of all of them, Patton has the best home life. Patton was raised by his mother and trusts her with everything.

Patton’s house becomes a safe place for the others whenever they don’t feel comfortable at home or are in trouble.

Roman’s parents are almost never home, so Roman spends a lot of time alone. He likes to invite the others over or stay at Patton’s whenever his parents are gone for long periods of time.

Logan’s parents push him to succeed, to the point that he has suffered panic attacks. He goes over to Patton’s whenever they become too much. Mrs. Baker always has a hug ready for him on days he shows up on their doorstep with red eyes and tear stains on his face.

Virgil lives with his aunt. He was raised by his father for ten years. His father didn’t allow him to leave the house and would sometimes lock him in his room without food or water. While he has improved since he was first taken away from his father, he still becomes quite anxious around crowds and is adverse to touch. He deals with terrible nightmares and is often unable to sleep because of them. He was hesitant to go to Patton’s house without being invited, but he slowly became more comfortable there. He’s even begun to think of Mrs. Baker as his own mother, though he would never admit it. She always makes sure that he knows he is welcome in their home and she always has cookies ready for him when he comes over.

Mrs. Baker keeps a few first aid kits around the house. She’s had to pick Logan up after some guys jumped him, so she knows the kind of situations her boys get into (did I mention she thinks of them all as hers?).

Patton was quick to pick up on what situations and people made Virgil anxious and shared them with the others. They all do their best to understand how Virgil feels and try to make him feel safe.

Virgil allows Patton to hug him while Roman and Logan will squeeze his shoulder to comfort him. Mrs. Baker will rub soothing circles on his back if he is over on a bad night. 

Logan has a very short temper, but he usually lashes out with words.

Roman’s temper is almost as short as Logan’s. He is usually able to calm himself quickly though.

Virgil is very sarcastic, so the only indication that he has lost his patience is if he raises his voice. The others have only heard him yell twice before and it terrified them.

Patton will only snap at someone if they mess with his friends or badmouth them.

Logan has the worst mouth out of all of them, though Virgil is a close second. Roman will curse when he’s angry. Patton very rarely curses, though he will in extreme situations.
