The Texas Tech University campus has a large public art program. Donated by Amon G. Carter, the bronze statue of Will Rogers on his horse, Soapsuds, was unveiled on February 16, 1950, just east of Memorial Circle.  These photographs were taken from the Public Information Collection.

"The Skin of Our Teeth" ran from October 30th - November 3rd of 1950. If you look closely at this image you will notice that the production was being held in the Aggie Pavilion. A few other plays were held there in 1950, including Romeo and Juliet. 

Last week we received a donation of 84 photos from the family of James Neville Baker.  He was born in 1917, and came to Texas Technological College in 1935.  According to the letter his family enclosed, tuition was $45 a semester and room and board in the dormitory was $35 per month.  He received an allowance of $5 per week.  He participated in intramural sports, track, and baseball.  Mr. Baker was a charter member of the Saddle Tramps.  The men’s dress code for daily wear was a shirt and tie, wool trousers, a wool sweater vest, and a jacket.  Suit coats were worn to school dances and tuxedos were required for some formal events.  Mr. Baker graduated in 1939 with a degree in business.  He passed away in 2009 at the age of 92. 

Kal Segrist, former Texas Tech baseball coach, passed away Friday, June 26th.

The University Archives at Texas Tech collects more than just Texas Tech materials.  Many of our donors include things that were important to them during their time here, or important in their lives.  These movie tickets are to the Palace Theatre in Spur, Texas, about 73 miles east of Lubbock.

Jurassic World is being released this week.  Texas Tech has one of the premiere researchers on dinosaurs.  Dr. Sankar Chatterjee is Curator of Paleontology at the Museum of Texas Tech.  Dr. Chatterjee is especially known for his research on the evolution of birds.  

This weekend is graduation weekend at Texas Tech.  One of the favorite places for photos is the class ring sculpture.
