1/2 Baked Ideas: Yu-Gi-Oh Series Idea
So, this idea has been bouncing around in my head for a few days. Normally, I'd send it to Idea Purgatory (A Word Doc), where it would just gather dust until my brain boomerangs back around to it. But hey, maybe someone on the internet can do something with it.
The story starts when Yu-Gi-Oh is still gaining traction as a card game. The main character, Protag, is shown to be a "Prodigy Player" winning his way through his local tournament. We see Protag's signature card as he wins his final duel, hoisting up the trophy in pride.
Fast-forward a few decades, and Protag is now ProDad! He's long since stopped playing Yu-Gi-Oh and has gotten a loving wife, a good kid, and a decent job. One day, Prodad's son, Kidtag, asks him for a ride to a comic shop. This is where Prodad finds out that Kidtag plays Yu-Gi-Oh and is pretty good at the game.
Seeing a moment to bond with his kid, Prodad finds his shoebox with his cards and old deck and tries to duel Kidtag. In the process, Prodad gets a confusing and brutal introduction to modern Yu-Gi-Oh.
Over the course of this adventure, Prodad re-learns the game of Yu-Gi-Oh, bonding with his son and finding his love for the game again. Meanwhile, Kidtag gets closer to his dad by teaching him all the new gimmicks and also becomes a better player through his dad's old strategies.
THERE IS NO MAGIC OR CAZY SCI-FI NONSENSE
This story takes place in the "real" world. Like, early in the original Cardfight Vanguard series, all the dramatic anime goodness is just in everyone's imagination.
Starting from locals all the way to the world championship, Prodad and Kidtag duel their way through a wholesome and drama-filled adventure.
If I had to come up with a title, it would be Yu-Gi-Oh...
