Decades Lookbook - The 1920âs
I have embarked on a 20th Century Decades Lookbook series and next up is the 1920âs as requested by @sarkana-simsâ.
1920âs fashion centered around the revolution of freedom in both clothing and morals. People broke out of Victorian-era prim and proper styles and into more casual wear. Clothing was comfortable yet showed off an entirely new and outrageous use of color and decoration.
A few fun facts I learned while creating these looks:
Many people associate fishnet tights and dark eyeshadow with the 1920âs (đ) In fact, the only women who wore fishnets were showgirls (not your run-of-the-mill flappers) and dark eyeshadow was only worn by stars filming movies because it showed up better on camera (no color pictures yet!)Â
I wanted to put facial hair on my masculine sim, but I found out that wearing facial hair in the 20âs was a sign that you were hiding something (!!) such as old scars from a smallpox outbreak.
(Thanks VintageDancer for making researching a breeze)
I based (and named) a sim after Josephine Baker. If you are unfamiliar with her, here are four words that ought to peak your interest: singer, siren, activist, spy.

You can find these sims on the gallery under Origin ID: eregister or you can download the tray files here (mediafire, no ads.) You will still need to download all the CC for your sims to look like mine.

Hot off the pressesâ the release date for Return of the Thief is being pushed back to summer 2020.
Writing a bookâparticularly a highly-anticipated ending to an already spectacular seriesâcan be stressful, convoluted, isolating work. Letâs all show our favorite Master of Foolhardy Plans all the love and gratitude we have for her and the world and characters sheâs given us. Thank you, @meganwhalenturner, for your years of hard work, and for the magic of The Queenâs Thief!
The river knows its time.
âI was going to say you look like a polecat when you smile like that.â
âDo I? You look a little vulpine yourself.â
âYes, I suppose so.â

Irene: Look, sometimes the only way to secure your throne is to shoot a man in the face
Gen, horrified: There MUST be another way, Iâm going to figure it out.

Gen, handing Sophos a gun: Look, sometimes the only way to secure your throne is to shoot a man in the face

Sculpture of Episteme, symbolizing Science, at the Celsus Library in Ephesus, Anatolia. The third largest library in the ancient world, it was built in honor of a Roman Senator and completed between 114-117 AD. It had the capacity to hold 12,000 scrolls.

âThe queen!â someone shouted in alarm, and the king erupted like a wild animal caught in a snare.
He tried to sit up, and the men around him held him down. He struggled. Someone sensible used both hands to pin the hook, with its knife-edge, to the bed. Someone less sensible tried to consolidate his grip on the kingâs other arm and staggered back, holding his face.
âMy stitches, my stitches!â the physician yelled.
âYour Majesty, Your Majesty!â
âDamn your stitches!â he snarled. âLet me up.â
With one hand free the king was forcing himself to a sitting position, but more people were pushing him back down, all of them shouting. Someone fell back from the end of the bed, kicked solidly. The doctor cried out again, all his work going to waste.
Costis saw no good to be had by involving himself in the melee. He watched as Ornon stepped forward, seized a man efficiently by the hair, and pulled him sharply backward. The man sat down hard, and Ornon stepped into the space he had left by the kingâs bed.
Bonus:
He splayed his hand across the kingâs face and slammed his head back hard against the pillow. Keeping his hand planted on the kingâs face, he leaned over and roared into his ear, âThe queen is fine!â
This scene has the energy of a renaissance/baroque painting.
I wanna add to this in light of your piece published the next day of Phresine (or another attendant⌠But I really want it to be Phresine) wiping the Kingâs bloody finger prints from Attoliaâs cheek⌠That I love that you drew her with her mask down in front of that attendant. In that fleeting moment. It made me aware of how Irene would literally and actually pass out in the middle of her Courtâs melee than take off her mask before them. The power and angst behind this scene is totally hitting me right now. Tbh I hadnt thought much about it until now because fainting scenes are overdone in dramas but Irene fainting is totally different⌠Its like the point of exhaustion hit from concealing our truth foe too longâŚ
I donât really have a âbedroomâ. I have a bed in my library.
