Make an appointment with your child specialist if you think your kid has ADHD. To make sure that something else isn't causing the symptoms, they will perform a checkup that includes a hearing and vision examination.

Doctors begin by inquiring about a child's health, behavior, and activity to diagnose ADHD. They discuss the things they have noticed with parents and children. Your doctor might request that you fill out checklists concerning your child's conduct and send the teacher a copy as well.

After collecting this information, doctors identify ADHD if it is clear that:

The behaviors have been going on since the child was young.

Attention problems, hyperactivity, or impulsivity in children go beyond what is typical for their age.

The behaviors affect the child at school and home.

A health check demonstrates that the problems are not being caused by another health or learning issue.

Learning disabilities, oppositional and defiant behaviors, as well as mood and anxiety problems are common in children with ADHD. These are commonly managed by physicians along with ADHD.

Speech therapy is performed to accurately diagnose speech and communication problems. It is performed by speech-language pathologists (SLPs), which are often referred to as speech therapists.  Techniques from speech therapy are utilized to enhance communication. Depending on the type of speech or language disorder, these could include articulation therapy, language intervention exercises, and others.

Your child's speech treatment may take place in a classroom, small group, or one-on-one. Depending on the disorder, age, and needs of your child, several exercises and activities are used in speech therapy. In children's speech therapy, the SLP might:

Age-appropriate play is a good way to teach children how to make various sounds by modeling the right syllables and sounds for them.

As part of language intervention, engage in conversation, play, and use of books, drawings, and other things to help promote language development.

provide strategies and homework for the child and parent or caregiver on how to do speech therapy at home.

Autism

We are aware that autism has multiple causes. According to research, a variety of nongenetic, or environmental, factors contributes to the development of autism. These factors seem to raise a child's risk of developing autism. However, it's crucial to remember that higher risk does not equate to a cause. 

For instance, some gene changes linked to autism can also be seen in people without the condition. Not everyone who is exposed to an environmental risk factor for autism will go on to have the condition. In actuality, most won't.

Autism risk in children is increased by changes in specific genes. These gene alterations may be passed on to a child if one or more of the parents carries them (even if the parent does not have autism). Other times, early eggs or the sperm and/or egg that combine to form the embryo experience these genetic modifications on their own. Once more, the bulk of these gene alterations does not result in autism on their own. They merely raise the disorder's risk.

Autism, often known as an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a complex condition that affects both behavior and communication. It may feature a variety of signs and capabilities. ASD might be a very minor issue or a disability requiring complete care in a special facility.

Communication is difficult for kids with autism. They struggle to comprehend the thoughts and emotions of others. They find it difficult to express themselves as a result, whether through gestures, facial expressions, touch, or speech.

They were originally considered to be distinct conditions. They now fall into the category of autism spectrum disorders, which includes:

Autistic disorder

This is what most people think of when they listen to the word "autism." It refers to issues with social interactions, communication, and play in children younger than 3 years.

Asperger's syndrome.

These children don't struggle with language, and intellect tests typically show that they fall in the average or above-average range. However, they struggle with social problems and have certain hobbies.

Pervasive developmental disorder

If your child exhibits some autistic behaviors, such as impairments in social and communication abilities, but doesn't fall under another label, your autism specialist may use this term.

Childhood disintegrative disorder

These children have average development for at least 2 years and then lose some or most of their communication and social skills.

One of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental diseases in children is ADHD. It often persists into adulthood and is typically first diagnosed in infancy. Children with ADHD may struggle to focus, manage impulsive behaviors (doing without considering the consequences), or be overly active.

Children and teenagers with ADHD typically exhibit well-defined symptoms that become apparent before the age of 6. They happen in multiple settings, like at home and school.

Children may exhibit signs of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, or they may just exhibit signs of one of these types of behavior.

Inattentiveness (difficulty concentrating and focusing)

The primary signs of inattention are:

Showing forgetfulness or losing objects

Short attention span and distraction susceptibility

Making careless errors, such as in schooling

Continually shifting work or activity

Having trouble organizing your tasks

Being unable to commit to boring or time-consuming tasks

Showing an apparent inability to understand or follow directions
