My Blog For Otherkin

“Reverse” changelings are rarely addressed on tumblr, but it’s actually something that I discuss with others in the craft frequently offline. So I thought I would compile it into a comic for witchblr!

I’d give you a slow clap for how much of an absolute idiot you are, but I don’t want to make you feel as though you’re being belittled. 

So– let me get this all straight.

You think a well-known troll blog that posts pride flags for terms like sapiosexual and metrosexual and made up terms like “frustrosexual” is, for lack of a better term, valid. You 100% support this blog and its posts as entirely real, true, and legitimate. From spectrosexual (wanting to fuck ghosts) to Nyctosexual (wanting to fuck the dark, as in, the actual lack of light) to Ecogender (your gender is somehow reflective of your local ecology, you think those are all genuine LGBT identities or LGBT identities proposed and created in 100% complete seriousness, with no ulterior motive. 

You also pretty heavily focus on “kingender,” something which has been debunked as having no basis in the both the otherkin community nor LGBT community. This has been known as a farce by the greater otherkin community for literal years and I’d hope that anyone with a brain larger than a pea could be able to figure out that .

So because you’re a gullible moron who can’t be bothered to do any actual research into a community, you want to say that all otherkin are trans or consider themselves trans because they’re otherkin or some other horseshit.

That sound about right? Sweet, now, let’s go over where you went wrong in your commentary and criticism. 

First off: plenty of otherkin are trans. Now, here’s a lesson in being trans! Since I clearly need to lay this out for you, because you somehow don’t already know this already–despite claiming to be trans yourself. If someone is trans….that says virtually nothing else about them beyond the fact that they’re trans. it means they probably experience dysphoria and that they may or may not be in the process of transitioning. But beyond that? Zip. Zero. Nada. If someone happens to be otherkin and trans, that does not mean that somehow, specifically for that person and that person alone who calls themself trans, that those identities intercept in any way. It doesn’t mean that the person calls themself trans because they’re otherkin. Much in the same way that the fact that you have the critical thinking skills of a 13 year old doesn’t have any relation to you being trans. Is it a part of your identitiy? Sure. Is your inability to think your way out of a paper bag what defines you as trans? Probably not. 

Second: If you looked at the greater otherkin community and even just, oh, I don’t know, the basic definition of the word “otherkin” in the first place, you’d easily realize that otherkinity has no inherent relationship to gender. Nor sexuality. Nor romantic attraction. Nor whatever the hell else the kids are talking about these days, since I can’t be bothered to keep up with that crap closely. Anyone who claims otherwise is talking out their ass, a language I’m sure you’re proficient in.

Third: As someone who is trans and also otherkin, let me be the first–though undoubtedly not the last–to inform you that you’re not only wrong, but you’re also fucking stupid. Have you ever experienced dysphoria, by any chance? It’s one hell of a bitch to deal with, and with the way you can just completely ignore and dismiss my dysphoria and others in attempting to claim our identities manifest in different (and impossible) ways than they actually do….well, I just have to wonder how much of a transmed you actually are. I just have to raise an eyebrow at someone who claims to be transmedical and then goes on to tell people with dysphoria that their dysphoria isn’t the actual reason they’re trans.

Way to misrepresent what’s being said here. THey aren’t supporting MOGAI. They aren’t saying the terms are real, true, or legit. They’re saying that there are people who think these things. Those people are wrong, but they exist, and they are really harming both the otherkin and LGBT communities. 

The Tuatha Dé Danann (“People of the Goddess Danu”) were one of the mythical races who settled in Ireland before the arrival of the Milesians, the ancestors of modern Gaels. The Dananns were descendants of the goddess Danu. Her son Dagda was their most powerful leader of the Dananns.

The Tuatha Dé Dananns were a race of deities as well as race of heroes. They were skilled in art and science, poetry and magic.

They were said to come from four mythical cities: Falias, Gorias, Finias and Murias. When they came to live in Ireland, the Dananns received four magic treasures or talismans, one from each city. Before the Tuatha Dé Danann migrated to Ireland, they had learned all their skills from for four wizards/bards (druids) from these four cities. Morfesa from Falias, Esras from Gorias, Semias from Murias and Uiscias from Findias. (See the Druids of Danu)

After the Milesians defeated the Dananns, the Dananns either retreated to Tir na n-Og (“Land of Youth”) or they continued to lived on the land with the Milesians, but their homes (subterranean palaces) were hidden by magic from the eyes of mortals. Their homes were commonly called Sidhe (síd or sídh) or the Otherworld. Another name for the Tuatha Dé Danann was the áes sídhe or the “People of the Sídhe”.

In the Otherworld, the Danann remained young and seemingly immortal. Immortal in the sense, they can live a very long life and remain young, but they can be kill and destroy, just like any mortal.

There were frequent visits of the Dananns with the mortals. Sometimes they aided mortals, while other times they seek their destruction. Sometimes they sought marriage with mortals. Most of the times, the Dananns would come to the surface and meet their lovers, other times the mortals were allowed to live with them.

In the Ulster Cycle, the Tuatha Dé Danann was still seen as Celtic deities. However, in the Fenian Cycle, the Dananns had degenerated into nothing more then fey people; in another words, the Dananns became the “Fairy People”. The Tuatha Dé Danann became frequently associated with fairies. Because of the Christian influences in the myths, some of them died in old age when they leave the Otherworld; that they were baptised before their death.

It should be noted that the fairies in Celtic myths (especially Irish, Welsh and Arthurian myths) had nothing to do with tiny pixie with wings that are found in folklore and children fairy tales, like Tinklebell in Peter Pan or the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. The fairies found here were human with supernatural power. Modern interpretations of fairies tend to prettify them, particularly during the Victorian period (19th century) in Britain. In early Irish and Welsh literature, they could be tall or short, beautiful or ugly. They can be benevolent beings, but at other times they can be frighteningly cruel or malign. Morrigan and Morgan le Fay would not be considered fairies in the modern sense.

If it does, that’s unhealthy. Don’t obsess over this. This can’t be the only thing that you focus on and think about. Other hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc. also make up your overall identity and who you are.

The internet is good for researching and finding information, but if you spend all of your time on Tumblr and the internet, please think about stepping away from the computer and/or your phone for a little while.

Lilting celtic melodies and ethereal electronica tracks. Otherwordly, transcendent music for a dance within a faery ring, sunlight filtering through young green leaves. Pale pink roses with a sweet, sweet fragrance that hides the tiny, piercing thorns that lie beneath. Gently babbling streams, icy cold and lined with razor-sharp pebbles.

Unseelie Court

Deep and sultry tracks, with haunting strings or minor key piano melodies, rich synth beats, and slow, pulsing bass like the beat of a human heart. Bargains made by moonlight, promises of pleasures as irresistible as they are cruel. The glint of sharp, sharp teeth in the shadows. Wine the color of freshly spilled blood, sweet and spicy and worth the deadly price.

Wolfkin are not furries by definition. They just wish they could be with their pack again.

Fictionkin do not just really really like a fictional character. They are that character in heart and soul.

Ghostkin don’t just really love spooky things. They feel at home among them, because that is where they lived.

Otherkinity isn’t a mental deviance. But otherkin can be mentally ill, so treat those who are with the respect they deserve for the fight they’re winning. Because if you’re alive, you’re fighting. And you’re winning.

Dragonkin don’t eat real gemstones/valuable metals. They know humans can’t eat those, they aren’t stupid.

Spacekin are as normal and as valid as anybody else. Planets may well have souls too.

Plantkin do not care if you mow your lawn. They may care about deforestation, but hell, so should you.

Otherkin are human too. Treat us with respect.

Birdkin don’t think they can fly. All otherkin are aware their bodies are human.

Merkin don’t just love the water. Their souls remember that the water is their home.

Elementalkin aren’t just trying to be special snowflakes. They were the heart and soul of their element, and their souls remember it.

You wouldn’t tell someone their religion is invalid. You hopefully don’t go around telling people their gender identities or sexualities don’t exist. So why tell us we can’t be otherkin? Treat us as you would any other human being. With respect and kindness. Try to move forward to a better understanding, instead of dismissing us out of hand.

This post’s content will likely change over time. 

Eat well! This doesn’t just mean eating meat. Although a wolf’s primary source of nutrition is from their prey, they still eat a bit of plant matter to keep their digestive system healthy. Make sure to eat plenty of fruits and veggies! You might like this tag on the KinFood page.

Sing! Wolves howl to express emotion, so why shouldn’t you? Sing your heart out to any song that catches your fancy. So what if you don’t sound good?

Exercise! If area and environment allow, go ahead and chase birds and rabbits. You could even go hunting, if that’s your thing- just make sure you have proper permits and documentation for yourself, and remember to respect your prey.

Don’t forget to be social! Although it’s tempting to sit at the computer all day, wolves are extroverted animals, and need to be around others in order to feel like they are at their prime. Spend time with friends or family, or, if you’d rather not for some reason or another, you may consider investing in a plushie/stuffed animal or two.

Go ahead and chew on things! I know that when I get angry/stressed, I want to chew on stuff. If you get similar urges, you might contemplate keeping a stash of your preferred jerky. Just make sure not to chew on things that aren’t meant to be chewed on.

Build yourself a den! You can fill it with plushies, pillows, blankets… Anything that makes you feel comfortable and at ease. You can build dens underneath desks, in closets, or, if you prefer, just make a pillow fort.

If you can’t take yourself to the forest, bring the forest to you! Consider keeping some potted plants, or take up the hobby of pressing leaves and flowers. Collect interesting branches and rocks that you find.

Start a journal/sketchbook/scrapbook! You could document things that make you think of home, or you can create your own fictional pack, and track their daily adventures in your chosen form of media. This is especially nice for those who like to daydream.
