pulled that uno reverse card on you ---now what ????

         ❝  your  cousin  is   ----  ❞    amusement  coats  sofia’s  words,   and  she’s  about  to  end  the  statement  with  intense,   intimidating,   something  of  the  sort,  when  she  spies  the  look  on  dmitri’s  face  in  the  reflection  of  the  mirror  and  pauses.   of  course,  she’d  noticed  the  tension  surrounding  them  this  evening,  figuring  it  could  be  chalked  up  to  the  way  time  and  distance  can  strain  a  family.  but  this  feels  like  something  more.    ❝  ---  qué  pasa,   mi  amor ?  ❞

IT  WASN’T  SO  LONG  AGO   that  inej  was  afraid  to  look  at  herself  in  the  mirror.   afraid  the  girl  she’d  once  been  would  no  longer  stare  back  at  her   ------as  if  ketterdam  had  changed  her  irrevocably.    it  has,  she  knows,  but  not  in  the  ways  she’d  feared.

         he lay there for a moment, feeling waves of irritation coming off her, and she’s chastising him once more, and it only earns her a roll of her eyes from the pirate, one that had been in enough trouble in the past to know that he would surely get himself out of this predicament soon enough. 

         and as stupid as she can make him out to be, he knows his wit and cunning are not to be ignored, though, at times, his tongue could be known to get them into more trouble, rather than out of it. perhaps it was his blatant disregard for himself, his name, and his life that his father disliked so much. perhaps it was that his father hated it so much that leo engaged in such behaviors so often. dirt on the vargas name only brought his father headaches. good.

         thoughts flutter away on the wing of a gull as he feels her fingers card through his hair and coffee-brown eyes flutter open. he knew it was only a tease, but he’d relish the contact while he could, gaze dropping to her lips. ‘ well, ‘ he begins, sure to drag out his pause as long as he could, ‘ since you asked so nicely… ‘ voice trails off and he curls up in an attempt to steal a kiss off her lips. a gamble, he was sure. 

MAKER  HELP  HER,   she’s  going  to  murder  him.   isabela  sighs  in  frustration  as  he  seems  to  find  himself  right  back  in  dreamland.   and  she’s  just  moments  away  from  using  the  leverage  in  his  hair  to  give  him  a  good  yank   ------when  he  saves  himself  by  opening  his  eyes.  

her  relief,  however,  is  short  lived.

          ❝  if  i  were  to  kiss  you,  ❞    irritation  heavily  coats  what  would  otherwise  be  teasing  words,  and  she  leans  in  closer,  breath  glancing  over  his  skin,  before  her  next  words  come  out  loud  and  demanding  against  his  ear.   ❝  will  you  get  your  lazy  arse  off  this  floor  ?  ❞

there’s  too  much  at  stake  here  that  he  does  not  know  ---   and  that  she’s  not  yet  willing  to  divulge  ( and  hopes  she’ll  never  have  to  divulge ).  things  beyond  the  brig  have  been  too quiet,  and  that  does  not  bode  well  for  them.  whatever  the  qunari  want  to  do  with  their  two  prisoners,  they  need  to  find  a  way  out  of  here  before  they  return.
