Hi! I was wondering are you excited about the tnt live action teen titans series? And also when do you think the production is going to start? :)
production is supposed to start next month!
the team line-up has me kind of itchy. as far as I know, it’s Dick Grayson (apparently he becomes Nightwing during the series????), Barbara Gordon (as Oracle for some ungodly reason), Raven, Starfire, Hawk, and Dove. so that’s?? already unconventional from what canon gives us. I’m hoping they’ll throw in Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Kid Flash later, since the series is supposedly based off of The New Teen Titans and they’re… part of that group. Hawk and Dove are cool, but like??? Why?????? they seem so extra.Â
and while I love Barbara, I don’t associate her with Teen Titans. i also rather have her as Batgirl (like what is the time continuum in this series? how OLD are they?? how is Babs already Oracle??? are they still doing the Joker plot with that?). and if it’s not completely obvious already, Babs is pretty much purely included to play a love interest. not to say she won’t be an interesting character, but she is soooo detached from the Titans and yet soooo connected to Dick’s individual character, so cool characterization or not, WE. KNOW. THE. INITIAL. INTENT. OF. WHY. SHE’S. THERE. which is… disrespectful in its own right. Babs has a life, another storyline unrelated to Dick, and is her own superhero. why is she here hanging out with Dick’s friends??? it’s unnecessary as hell.
and having Babs and Starfire in the same show at the same time is a premeditated reach for Drama and the dreaded Love Triangle. which is definitely NOT how I want Starfire or Babs represented. I can tell you in full confidence right now that whatever kind of stuff happens, it’s going to endgame Dick/Babs (why else would Babs be there). and that’s… fine… but Starfire was a huge part of Dick’s life at this point and really shaped how he turned out in the future… as you know… Nightwing. i’ll be PISSED if they belittle her into the “side chick” role.
also, Nightwing?!? NIGHTWING?!?! for some reason mass media has prescribed the “Robin” mantle as not cool enough or something (and yeah, I’m looking pointedly at Christopher Nolan). but this is TEEN TITANS. this is Robin’s fucking team, and i’ll be damned they mature up Dick Grayson because “gritty” DC shows are afraid of red, yellow, and green.Â
I went on a surprise tangent, but to answer your question: am I excited? I have no idea. they haven’t released nearly enough information for me to decide what kind of series this is. all I can do is base it off of the characters that were leaked. and so far, it seems too unfamiliar. don’t get me wrong, I’m not much of a “traditionalist” (no one really can be if they’re part of a comic book fandom). but they’re going to have to go full-AU or full-canon. this half-in/half-out stuff is only going to bother me.
