In session she’s impressed with my attempts at getting my poetry seen, I tell her my writing is what I am most confident about. And then I don’t write. • Feel like all I write about is myself. And I’m so sick of myself, so sick of the word ‘I’. So I don’t write. • By her request I took a self-compassion quiz. The component I scored the best on was Isolation. Meaning: I don’t have much self-compassion, but at least I’m well aware that I am not alone. • Not alone in feeling like shit about myself. Not alone in struggling to be nice to myself. • I listen to songs whose lyrics are in the first person and I get it- I can relate to these poems even though they are using ‘I’. They write about themselves and still they help people feel less alone. • And I still don’t write.
