Ive had a lot of fun with this journey of making a book and have learnt a lot. I felt I've definitely struggled with finding my ideas throughout the semester although it has been undoubtably the most inspiring. 

This final image is showing the scene rendering frame by frame to create the gif. Along the bottom there are 240 frames that must be rendered, then it will be the finished product.  

I’ve been working to make these textures as realistic as possible for aesthetic purpose mainly and in turn the subject matter will be taken more seriously especially because its an art piece not so much a readable book if this makes sense.   

This most definitely doesn't apply to all post digital people and I don’t view it all in this cynical manor but its been a thought fuelling my final. 

a scary week I had along the way

Here is a birds eye progress shot of the composition I have created. I decided to include this one in particular because it includes ‘facebook skin’ to the covers of the books, this is something I don’t wish to have in the final composition although I think it shows some symbolism about our privacy online. This could be interpreted in a few ways but my interpretation (to my surprise) was that we see each facebook profile as a personal and private place with a security password lock on each, but in reality they can just be opened, just as easily as books are..  MAYBE!! the post digital world is about turning us into books  

The same way I was interested by Karens digital process, I was keen to start from scratch, learning the program maya to create the books. When starting to use the program I didn’t realise how complicated the process actually is although I have had a lot of fun learning it.     

It occurred to me how much identification is needed through technology and the internet in particular and how we can only get what we want with it and loose so much without it. 

Revisiting the website Newhive for a few weeks in a row and picking up inspiration. 

The reason I think I came up with this (incomplete) idea is because unfortunately I have never been a big reader. This book, to me, plays on the idea of not wanting to read something and the drive to actually complete a book (a drive of which I have never really had). Through this, in relation to the assignment, I want my final product to really be something that I’ll want to read and that’ll have a drive.    

This week I have tried to rapidly produce ideas. It didn’t work. While sitting in the workshop hearing of other peoples thoughts and plans I couldn’t seem to create my own. It wasn’t until the book club that I seemed to be properly inspired. One thing in particular that I appreciated from the vast array of books I looked at was the type. The question hit me, must a book need lush typesetting to be good? According to the book-club session, ‘yes’ cause every book I saw seemed to have it. Rationally I don’t think type is what makes a good book but I have thought to play on the idea that ‘its not about the words, its about the type’ hence I’m thinking I will create my book with a fake alphabet to prove this idea. Although this idea doesn’t actually make any resolutions about the shape or form of the book, I think it could be an extra dimension to the meaning. I leave this weeks episode with still no solutions, only progress.    

A stand out topic of this week, has been the idea of ‘open design’. Though it took me a while to understand, it’s really helped in getting this assignment started. Within this idea I found two things that stood out. These two things are interpretation and the deconstruct/reconstruct process. Todays class activity encapsulates both these ideas. When I started to write the description for my small artwork I was thinking about the deconstruction, I thought the description summed up the whole thing, what could go wrong? Well technically nothing did go wrong, the drawings were identical by description. What surprised me was the reconstruction of the piece, the drawings were completely different through interpretation. Seeing this happen, it really defined the idea of open design for me. Without it (open design) putting words on a page and having someone read will let them surf your thoughts and ideas, but with it the viewer becomes the creator by opening their own mind. This has been something to think about when creating my concept, I’m still unsure as to whether I’d like the book to be viewed in more of singular way (choosing the way the viewer sees it) or to have it be more up to interpretation.    

I have been introduced to quite a lot in this first week. I’ve never been too big on pintrest, never tired tumblr and cant quite grasp the brief despite the teachers best efforts. This week I predominantly gave tumblr a red-hot crack in seek to get ideas flowing. What I found tumblr to be was basically a platform where I can see all the worlds different cultures and sub-cultures through different windows. The same as any other social media platform I guess although tumblr seems to have an overriding aim to have the majority of its images to be visually pleasing/interesting to the audience, despite each of their content.
