I kinda want to make a new blog for dev posts and just rpgmaker posts in general but im kinda attached to this blog LOL. Sadly this blog is a sideblog attached to tear-project still and I dont want the “tear-project is now following you” notification to go off when i follow people since i want that blog to remain as inactive as possible until I’m ready to work on Tear again. SO i’ll most likely make a new blog sometime soon. Not sure what i’ll name it tbh! I’ll make another post whenever I do make a new blog. Honestly I quite like how quiet this one is so maybe i’ll keep my personal posts on here but who knows! We shall see ouob
Do any of you have songs you like to associate with your games/characters?
Would love to hear them!
@rindreÂ
I think we ended up making 1 or 2 posts but then abandoned posting real fast LOL. Didn’t get much attention (luckily) but if you browse through tags alot you might have seen it.

A HOT TAKE
I just came back to the community and I’m amazed that this problem is still prevalent even after 2 years I’ve been gone. SO since I’m back I’d like to give my HOT TAKE on this issue since it seems to be making its rounds.
Stop trying to compare games in the community to each other. A game isn’t ripping off another just because the maps look similar (and COUGH IF THEY USE THE SAME FREE TILESETS). A game isn’t a rip off just because the characters have the same color scheme (yes this was a real confession comparing 2 games for using white, black and red for the mcs).Â
Calling games a rip off of another is just lazy if all you have to back it up is similar maps. It’s the exact same as every lazy journalist comparing any game with a slight difficulty to Dark Souls.  <<< link may be a joke but this is a very real problem in gaming journalism.Â
Even then when games are compared to others it’s not usually negative unlike majority of comparison posts I see here. If you think “oh this game kinda reminds of of this other game” then I wouldn’t consider it negative. But straight up saying “THIS GAME RIPPED OFF THIS GAME” clearly shows you just hate the game because it reminds you of a game you like lmao. Just because a game seems like another doesn’t mean its a blatant rip off. People sometimes just have similar ideas and visions. These things line up. Especially if the thing you’re comparing isn’t exactly creative and extremely common. Also people can be inspired by other games without just straight up being a copycat. And if you do think something’s a rip off at least back it up with more than just “the maps and vibes are similar”. You’re just being lazy and stubborn.
END RANT
I fully agree with your points it’s becoming a bit crazy annoying with the am mount of people that keep saying “game x” is a ripoff of “game y”. All rpg maker games shouldn’t be negative compare like that. It tends to make other devs worry if their game is going to be called a ripoff, I use to worry and still do a tiny bit for my game project. If it’s going to be called a rip off.  Also welcome back!!!!! It’s good to see you’re okay and doing well, and if you’re going to hang around the community you should join the Pixel horror server it has nice and friendly peeps and other devs in it. It’s a super fun helpful place.  OvO/ Well only if you want to, I do hope you have a wonderful day. Pixel Horror Discord Server: https://yumeresource.tumblr.com/post/150151913782/welcome-to-the-pixel-horror-discord-server-click
Thanks! I actually joined the server yesterday but I haven’t talked much :P
I’ll try to pop in here and there when I’m not busy. Would be great to catch up with everyone :) Sorry my return had to be such a negative blabbering mess

on which games will be completed and which won’t
You know I’ve been thinking about this for a while now considering how many games on HAMS’s list haven’t updated in over 6 months, been put on indefinite hiatus, have really spaced out updates, or keep saying they’re about to drop a demo but haven’t yet, but I’m starting to be able to tell which games will be completed based on their devblog alone.
Here’s some things I look out for.  Note: please understand this does NOT mean that any game with a few of these traits won’t be finished. The more traits a game has though, the less likely it will be finished.
first time game developers starting a devblog too early in the game’s development cycleÂ
release date estimations from new developers who don’t know how long completing a game will actually take
getting constantly delayed by school or other obligations.  this isn’t something the developer can control
a need for perfection/perfectionism, where the developer keeps redoing parts of the game over and over again to meet their standards
in that same vein, good art or being more of an artist than a developer - it takes a while to make good art, so the more time you take on the graphics, the more time it’s going to take to complete the game.  again, not a definite thing, but I have seen it often enough that it’s on this list.
constant changes in plot, programming, game mechanics, art styles, etc.
focusing less on the game itself and more of the lore & art of the game. this tends it tends to signal that the game would be better off as a comic or a novel than a game. Â Not a bad thing, just somethign
focusing less on the game itself and more joking around with their characters or fufiling drawing request - this has your brain already satisfied with the work you produce, making you feel like you already accomplishing what you set out to do without doing it.  Nothing wrong with it, but it can also be distracting if you’re getting a lot of them.
starting with a lot of content then gradually having longer and longer periods of silence in between updates
the developer(s) not being confident in what they’re doing
going on hiatus for more than a month - the longer you are away from a game, the less interested you are in finishing it due to coming up with more ideas
announcing they’re making a demo and then not having one out for over a year
having a team with more than 3 people on it - it’s not like games like this aren’t completed, it just means it’s more likely that game development will stop if someone drops out of the game.
Not all games that aren’t complete have these signs though.  Some just drop off the map completely without warning.
I’ve notices many of these traits too, especially back when I was making comic. I had many friend who had cool comic ideas, but they never got anything done, because they just kept playing around or redtawing first 10 pages ovet and over again.
These are also good tips, you should keep an eye on! I do too.
100% me LOL the start of me slowly drifting away was mainly due to my immature anger at the community (hell I even deleted everything on the main blog for a while) as well as having the "need to up my game because there are other really good games" I kinda wish I stuck with the whole gamemaker thing and just releasing the game without updates because at least I'd have a very badly programmed mediocre game out. Someday.. Someday
This is a very good video for those making games in the community. Bosman makes some very nice points about context in games and how every small detail can make an impact.
Hi everyone...
So it's been a while since I updated huh 8D well it's also been a while since I even payed attention to this blog and community OTL. I was really busy with school and trying to finish my portfolio. Good news is I am now free and got accepted into animation for next year QuQ so all of my hard work paid off. More good news? I am actually more confident in my art now and learned a lot so I'm interested to see how much this improvement will impact Tear. Bad news, I won't be able to work on Tear for the rest of the month because of plans and I wanted to take a decent sized break from art after dying for 8 months LOL but I will surprise everyone before start school again in September in which I definitely won't be able to work on Tear cause i want to get a job in animation 8D. Anyways how has everyone been doing? Any cool games come out or are in development that I missed the past 3-4 months?? Would be cool if y'all would help me catch up with what happened -u-
What interests you most about a character
A: Design
B: Character/Personality
C: “Trivia” (Sexual orientation, disabilities, things we wouldn’t typically find out in-game)
D: Background History
E: Other. (What am I forgetting? Tell me!)
Design is what gets me interested in the character but personality and background is what keeps me interested

Quick tips~
Make google drive your best friend. It’s a great way to work with team members on planning out your game, writing down ideas and keeping them safe! Incase your computer ever dies, at least you’ll have it on google. Also a good idea to keep everything organized -u-
Always important to have a backup! You can save it to dropbox, a usb, portable hard-drive or google.Â
Also don’t save directly on a usb but save it to your computer then move it to the usb after instead. Photoshop and Sai don’t do well with usbs and theres a chance that the file will get corrupted and you’ll lose all your work! Sadly I learned that the hard way a long time ago.Â
