He smiled at the offer. âThank you, but no. I am fine.â He settled into the darkest chair in the darkest corner. He pulled out a fountain pen and a notebook, and began writing. Then he would pause. The sounds of quill on parchment went on even though he stopped writing. Then he would begin writing again.
Watching him from the corner of her eye, Theo didnât fail to notice the mysterious, ghostly sound of invisible writing. Even she had to admit that that was unusual. Perhaps heâd cast a Protean Charm on the notebook and was using it to communicate with persons unseen?
That wouldnât explain the noise, though, she thought. She wondered what his business with her employer might be. Somehow she doubted it would be the usual cup of tea and translation job.
As it turned out, it was the usual translation job, minus the tea. Teague rose when her employer came out, and offered his pale hand. Then he pulled out a leather bound book with a wolf head and bat insignia on the cover. Theoâs boss seemed impressed as he carefully looked at the pages.Â
âVery old. Local dialect too. I believe I can help you, but it will take time.â He turned to walk back into his office. âCome tell me about this amazing book.âÂ
The pale man followed, nodding to Theo as he passed her. The meeting didnât take long as meetings go, and soon they re-emerged.Â
âYou can pay my girl,â Theoâs boss said as he showed Teague out. Teague nodded and stopped at her desk, pulling out a fountain pen and a check book from the Darkstradt Bank of Carpathia. Not quite Gringotts, but the money spent the same.Â
