Many people are aware of the superstitions associated with black cats and the belief that they are bad omens. However, what many people are unaware of is that the negative stigma attached to these cats affect them greatly. Black cats are usually the last to be adopted and find forever homes and because of this many are put to sleep because shelters cannot find them a home. People think that black cats are bad, a belief which has no merit, when in reality they are just as sweet and loving as any other cat. These cats need our help finding a forever home maybe even more so than the others, especially during this time of year. Many shelters will not let you adopt a black cat during the week of Halloween because too many times they are only adopted to be abused or used in pranks because of the belief and superstitions placed with them. However, you can help these beautiful cats by going to your local shelter after Halloween and adopting one!
