I already have a few headcanons on him that I want to share:

1) Squirm - Peacock moth caterpillar

2) He tried to turn into a butterfly, but ultimately couldn't sit in the cocoon long enough due to claustrophobia.

3) Flutter and Flyte gave him their old cocoons (They are cracked, but also bigger than Squirm's cocoon) so that he could get rid of his fear.

4) Flyte promised to personally teach him how to fly when he could become a butterfly.
