Hello, i need advice for my friend. My best friend is far away in college and she is very suicidal rn. She's already attempted and failed. Ppl around her told her that they wish she was successful in her attempt and I can't believe that they wud do such thing. My friend is close to getting kicked out of uni becuz ppl r sayn that she'll harm them but she hasn't done anything to them. How can I comfort her? I've listened to her and told her that I love a lot and that I'll always be there for her

maybe if i knew what was making her suicidal i could answer but as for now i think just listening to her and being there would help a lot !! i know this is late and all and i hope u and ur friend are ok and safe now.Â
maybe a good thing to suggest is like alternatives to getting a degree if theyre worried abt getting kicked out of school and reminding them that there will always be ways to get out of painÂ

Red flags to look for in psychiatrists
- if they do not like that you research your disorder/s and treatment/s - if they do not explain the reason/s behind certain treatment/medication that they are prescribing you - if they are reluctant/refuse to let you access your medical records - if their first response to symptoms is medication without any talk therapy - if they say they âdonât believe in therapyâ - if they say they âdonât believe in medicationâ - if they insist on seeing your parent/legal guardian without you being present - if they tell you that there are no other treatment available if you complain about your current treatment/medication not working/having unmanageable side effects - if they diagnose you without explaining how they came to that diagnosis, what it entails, and which treatments you have at your disposal - if they fall asleep during a session (youâre laughing but it happened, several times, and iâm not boring) - if they assure you that you cannot have [insert disorder here] because you are too young/wealthy/poor/fat/skinny/smiling/old/whatever bs (the only valid reasons for not having a disorder is if you do not meet the minimum criteria for it, age/body/ethnicity/etc are not criteria) - if they tell you that you obviously do not want/are not ready to get help (thatâs a super abusive technique, would only see this as a valid comment to make if you are pressured into seeing them by someone who has authority over you) - if they insist on you continuing to take a medication despite the side effects very negatively affecting you (for example: if you are recovering from an ED and you get the âgaining weightâ side effect and that is very triggering to you) - if they are flippant about/disregard your feelings iâm probably forgetting a lot. feel free to add. You want some real legitimate advice about mental health? Stop being mean to yourself.
Like, when you wanna say mean shit about yourself either internally or externally, work to learn how to step back a moment and remind yourself that what you are doing is a form of self-harm and not a fair or legitimate judgement on you as a person, and furthermore is not productive to your survival or well-being.
Even if you fuck something up, you can resolve to do better in the future, you can tell yourself that youâre going to make this a learning experience, and even if youâve made the same mistake 50 times already, telling yourself youâll get it right someday if you just keep trying will always do you better than calling yourself an idiot and beating yourself up for not being able to get it right.
Take it from me, a lot of mental health shit is a product of your environment and personal history, and therefore you really donât have the control over it that you need to get by without othersâ help, but one thing you can have some control over is whether youâre going to be a friend to yourself or just another enemy, and if you want to survive, youâve gotta strive to be in your own corner as best you can.

If youâre angry at them, let them know that you are and why, but also make sure to let them know that this doesnât diminish your love for them.
Same goes with any negative feeling or situation; just remember to be calm, precise, and reassuring when you do it. They will feel shitty when it happens, we donât react well to things like this, but it helps the relationship so much.
Firstly, it allows you to communicate your concerns, thoughts, and feelings, which is essential for any healthy relationship.Â
Secondly, over time it will greatly benefit your friend with avpd! Our minds like to analyze every little behaviour and conversation with a self doubting lense. So if you let us know when youâre actually feeling certain things, itâll help us process information with more ease. We begin to trust that youâll tell us if something is wrong.
also! be sure to voice positive things (like, âI had a great time hanging out with your today!â) It goes a long way.Â
you are your worst enemy until you learn to treat yourself like a friend. sabotaging your efforts and relationships, convincing yourself no one loves you, not trying because youâre sure youâll fail, being apathetic to everything is bc you think youâre not good enough. but the truth is you are good enough and you can be the best person you can be if you learn to change these thoughts into self-love and encouragement. listen to your needs and be there for yourself instead of destroying your health or abandoning yourself or your future.
