ao3 doesn't have an app because for it to have an app, appstore will have to approve it first. and if, hypothetically, ao3 needs appstore to approve it, it will also have to abide by appstore's pro-censorship stance and start banning dark and taboo fics, which is against its own core principle of being completely against censorship.

ao3 doesn't need an app. it works more than fine without an app. the reason ao3 can allow dark and taboo fics, the reason it can allow the most disgusting and shockingly vile fics, and be completely against censorship is because it doesn't need appstore's approval. it stands on its own as a non-profit organization with functioning site and a team of lawyers protecting its platform, its users, and every single fanwork on its platform.

Boothill's synesthesia beacon expanding his lexicon means it's supplying him with the words for things his native tongue doesnt have the words for because Aeragan-Epharshel was isolated until a couple years ago (however long those couple years may be). With the planet now no longer isolated, the language of Aeragan-Epharshel is developing as its inhabitants encounter new things but is also simultaneously at a risk of dying out or changing into something completely different as the survivors slowly dwindle and the IPC has colonzied the planet.

Anyways, my point is that the synesthesia beacon is both a tool of oppression and horror (censoring his speech so it sounds cleaner, there's an innate horror in your words coming out all wrong because your speech isnt clean enough and its reminiscent of how countless indigenous and ethnic groups weren't allowed to speak their native tongue throughout history because it's not "civilized" enough) but also a tool that helps Boothill in its own way.

Its very much a double edged sword and I find it to be one of the things that Boothill has reclaimed in a way to empower himself and regain autonomy and agency. Through somewhat accepting the unique speech that his censorship gives him, he can make himself more theatrical and memorable which is what Boothill wants, to gain attention from the IPC to make hunting Oswaldo easier but also so more people look at him and thus look at the IPCs crimes. And with the synesthesia beacon compensating for his language deficiency, it aids in Boothill better expressing himself (and perhaps understand others better? Its hard to say how exactly his language deficiency presents itself aside from him not finding certain words)
