( it’s from a book; one of essek’s, actually, that he stole and read in his room in his fifties or so, until essek noticed and stole it back—the meaning or origin he cared little for, but his parents seemed approving of his choice, and he felt like it fit him ). before he was verin, he was many other names, some still found in occasional documents—most mentions of him, however, from before he chose his adult name, have been scratched over, wiped clean, or simply left blank where his first name should be, with simply the word youngest in front of the name of his den.

this beautiful and delicate creature is a classic example of a prey species, and with few defences other than its nimble mind and agile body it must be constantly on the lookout for danger. deer are active and lithe creatures with little excess body fat, and enjoy and excel at most athletic pursuits. their athleticism and grace may well create a fine first impression; it often masks a scatterbrained and emotionally taxing inner core.
best known for their highly-strung and skittish behaviour, deer personalities are shy and demure. with a propensity to withdraw emotionally for fear of getting hurt, deer often struggle to settle down, and their motivations are certainly difficult to predict. because their coquettish behaviour is rooted in deeply buried insecurities, deer are drawn to the entertainment industry as actors and models, where---by hiding behind the mask of characters---they find temporary refuge from the painful elements in their own lives.

verin wholly, utterly believes in the process of consecution. not even for himself—his goals regarding it are significantly more about finding acceptance and a place in his own family than actual pursuit of immortality—but as an universal concept: something that anyone who wants it, anyone who wants to tie their soul into the luxon and live again, should be able to get if it’s possible for them. it’s a matter of evening the scales: giving as many people as possibile the chance to become their perfect selves, achieve their full potential, and give everything they have to give for the betterment of this world before they let go of it. on principle, verin believes that the natural order of life and death isn’t fair. success is stacked against some years and years before their birth: a goblin is expected to achieve greatness in shorter time than a drow takes to reach adulthood—and, exluding the privileged and the highly talented ( or both, as in the case of essek and him, not that he sees it that way ), very few of even the most accomplished dark elf folk have achieved greatness in that age.
( in that vein, that is where verin’s views don’t fully align with the dynasty’s: as someone who believes that natural lifespans are inherently stacked in the favour of others, the idea of the dynasty’s meritocracy, of requiring the same potential to be reached in order to be consecuted regardless of race doesn’t work with the message tied to the dynasty’s religion. )
the beacons, he treats with the same solemnity and with more respect as one would a crypt. even with his religion pushed aside—the belief of them being a physical part of the luxon, that within itself comes with inherent respect towards them—the beacons are also a vessel of lives in his eyes: a beacon lost means lives lost, as people die without a beacon for their souls to return to, unknowing at the moment of their death that this life will be their last one. the amount of lives a beacon can hold is limited: verin sees it as a universal benefit for the kryn dynasty and those who seek consecution to find more, as it allows them to save more people—hopefully eventually those, too, who aren’t given the chance to be something extraordinary in their first lives.
the thought of consecution and rebirth, while not an ultimate goal for verin ( in fact, on some level, he’s come to terms with the fact that given his chosen career path, he may well die in the service of luxon and his nation before he reaches that potential ), is, as a thought, very comforting to him. the concept of eternity, service for a light that trusts their creation to learn and adapt and become knowledgable, the knowledge that if he reaches that milestone he believes his family requires of him, he will have the rest of this age to become what his god wants him to become, bring peace to him. while that immortality isn’t a value he seeks for its own value, he’s still—as every child of the dynasty, as far as he’s aware—spent countless hours imagining it, and finds comfort in the idea of one day reaching a point in his life where he can fall, and not have to fear having left something undone, something unfinished, or someone grieving for his loss.
