Riku nodded his head, a bit proud of himself.
“Thank you, it was not easy to create a flamethrower inside my weapon without sacrificing any strength when I use it as a blade. Where I am from, it is normal for a huntsman to create their own weapon. Some of the designs can be a bit weird, but they get the job done so I don’t judge.”
The hothead could see in the man’s eyes that he was excited and wanted to examine the weapon. That excited expression and calmer demeanor puts him at ease.
“If you want, I would be happy if you gave it a closer look. You said you’re a bit of an inventor so if you had any comments, I would like to hear them.”
It’s not like Riku would be weaker without his blades. Meeting another swordsman might help find ways to improve the weapon that he would never had thought of. Riku stabs his weapon into the ground and takes a step back in order for the man to inspect it if he wants to.
“In reality, while my weapon is strong and well-made. Part of its purpose is to help me manage my energy. You see, I have this power to create and control fire. It takes effort to shoot out a lot, so my blade helps to keep me going in a fight.” Once more, the hothead can’t help but brag about his weapon.
In an effort to show off, Riku creates a small spark of flame with the snap of his finger. For some reason, not a lot of people in this area believe Riku’s claim to control fire. Even after showing a small example like right now, they think he is just an expert magician.
"Really? You don't mind at all?"
Despite wanting to see the weapon that had certainly blown Trunks away in concept alone, he was a bit surprised that it would be given so easily. Though perhaps Riku also understood that the weapon doesn't make the man, a thought that was vindicated in the time traveler's head once Riku explained the real source of his power. It was something he could relate to, as Trunks's strength similarly was not reliant on the weapon he carried upon his back.
Though it was the sparks of fire that caught his attention next, his focus was immediately brought back to the blade currently in the ground. Carefully pulling it out, he'd run his fingers delicately along the length, blue eyes examining every detail he could while it was in its dormant state.
"So manages your magic for you, but does it amplify it as well? Or is it merely only capable of producing what you yourself would be capable of? Do you think that maybe, it'd be possible to modify it to produce magic in addition to managing it? That might better address your fatigue issue. Perhaps giving it an ability to store magic instead of purely making it act as a channel..."
His train of thought trails off for a minute, his face contemplative as he attempts to think of ways to optimize something he had barely seen and hardly any proper grasp of, but it was clear he was willing to experiment regardless.
After a couple minutes of silence, he suddenly remembers the existence of Riku. His head perks up as his eyes scan for the other man, and upon making eye contact, he can feel his face heat up in embarrassment, deciding to awkwardly make his way back over and hand the man his weapon back, coupled with a small and quick bow.
"Sorry- I- uh- got a little carried away there- It was just so unique I had to think about- Sorry, again. I didn't mean to ignore you. It's... an excellent weapon you got there."
Riku listened to the guys rambling. There was some decent stuff to consider. The hothead had not thought of using his weapon to store energy before. It should be possible to modify his blade to store a large amount of fire and then release it all at once for a humongous explosion.
An attack of that caliber is best used as a last resort. Although to get to that point Riku would have to pour his fire energy into his weapon slowly over time. Patience is not one of his strong suits, so it’s no surprise to the fire bender that he didn’t think of this strategy.
“Something like that is more in line with my friend Enigma. He could play a long game like that. The more I think about it, the more likely I believe I would pour as much fire as I can into the blade and then not be able to fight for the rest of the day.”
Riku shook his head, it was a pretty good thought in the beginning. In the end, it feels more like a hazard then a benefit to store fire away in his weapon. Huge explosions couldn’t be used in cities with civilians or enclosed spaces where he might destroy himself and his allies.
“Besides, it’s not like my blade is only capable of spitting out fire. If you pop this vent over hear you can reach the fuel source.” Riku pulls the butt end of the hilt and takes out a red crystal. “Where I’m from, we call these crystals dust. This is fire dust lets my flamethrower shoot fire, but actually it can shoot any type of dust.”
Riku fiddles around in a small box attached to his belt and shows several colorful crystals similar to the fire dust. “This one lets the blade shoot ice, yellow for lightning, purple is gravity… huh I wonder how that would actually work on my weapon. Anyways, I usually keep fire in my flamethrower since that’s what I’m used to. I switch out the crystal if the situation calls for anything other than flames.”
