this is a short one and the first scene (it cuts). i wanted to include the next scene buuuut i may not be able to eat or drink today so =w= i just wanna put this out there for now while i still try to work on either this or protagonists of stargazer (extended preview is out!)
but uh, i guess since it's short, quick blurb of the upcoming chapter: the glowing dawn is doing a bit of a staycation in one of the kuonji safe houses, where they discuss the events in nirinso and what to do moving forward after learning about gokuwmon and of world union stealing asuka's e-pulse + the ministry keeping quiet about the zero reverse + goku and about the god asuka met- (i promise it's not a recap chapter)
"Asuka."
Asuka withdrew himself from around the small form of his partner, and was taken by surprise by the solemn purpose staring up at him from within Goku's eyes, out-of-place with his round cheeks and small, button nose.
"I told ya 'bout what I last remember of ya. So, lemme tell ya… What I last remember of Tomoro."
When Asuka blinked, the lines on Goku's features became pronounced. His heartbeat, once steadied by Goku's understanding, began to pound painfully as the gentle waves collided loudly into his ears. The chilly air turned biting cold. Everything was coming into a sharp focus. It was the empathetic sensation of the future, just as he had told Goku, reaching into him, because of the danger of what he was about to hear.
"Your brother's as important as you are to the runt. The three of you are wound up together by some destiny."
He put away his e-Pulse hand behind his back in case it started reacting, too.
"Honestly, my memories… are like th' test questions Makoto's given me. Th' answers are in my head, but I have to think back on 'em like they're…" Goku's eyelids fell halfway, a cold detachment filling his gaze. "…stuffs I've memorized. I don't…"
Goku's hand balled on his chest, an unbearable ache spreading from there. But Goku refused to back down. Asuka's promise had given him that much strength.
"Feel anythin' about 'em. That's why yer not a scumbag for not rememberin' me— I'm th' same as ya. But, but—" He stammered, anguished. "They're all I have. I want to protect what's left of 'em. You 'nd Tomoro. 'nd— I think what last happened with him — I, I ain't really sure of what happened before 'nd after, but…"
Asuka couldn't see it, but he knew his e-Pulse was shining. The faint, white thread of karma gradually appeared right before his eyes.
"It could only mean that all the answers you've been seeking could be found in the same destination — that partner of yours, Son Goku."
sorry to sound hostile but asuka was literally (as in - the anime SHOWS it) the one that brought colors back to kyo's life after losing his entire family. asuka was his friend. asuka taught him to smile and enjoy music - asuka's beat. he was why cougarmon was born, cougarmon who is a part of him and supports him to this day.
you don't NEED shipping lens to recognize how important this is, how this saved kyo, how this is a core memory he carries to his day. i cannot believe people are really minimizing asuka's role as if the anime doesn't do that already just because it's fanservice, it's queer-baiting, or it's queer-coded. i'm tempted to just say people are fcking homophobic because i am SO SURE this is a ZERO issue if asuka were a female character.
so happy i have beatbreak tag filtered now because ain't no way people are reacting like some shipping's gonna hurt kyo's character. kyo, who have had all these villains obsessed with him, have cute kids rely on him, have an awesome arc around him, have a tragic backstory, also have a childhood backstory, also just carry awesome moments whenever he shows up + really awesome design and partner - get his character "reduced" with his relationship with asuka. man, personally i just think asuka wasn't showed to be important enough! kyo would be fine.

huh. so i made this post recalling kaito and how kyo really wanted to kill him when he was trying to leave world union...
..... asuka related? did kyo go berserk bc asuka was involved/threatened? because this would be right between the time asuka's mon was born and glowing dawn was created. it'd be the time he and kyo might have finally reunited. it really depends how and when kyo learned about asuka's secret/digimon
i wonder if kaito actually knew about asuka but maybe told kyo that he had to fight him seriously if he didn't want kaito telling the chairman about him
could explain kaito looking somewhat... baffled and horrified at the same time with how kyo had changed
