No joke, Linux is actually reminding me of when I used to play with desktop settings. I had this freaking brick of a Windows XP computer for AGES, and I distinctly remember playing with the settings and just messing with them to see what would happen when I was a kid.
…I didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling.

obligatory new desktop screenshot.... I left the terminal open to showcase one of my favourite UI features, which is the menu options being integrated into the top panel depending on what you have open, but you can snoop my dogshit specs while it's there LOL
grub is an open source bootloader commonly used for open source operating systems, like linux. github is a development platform where a lot of open source projects are hosted. so you'd think grubhub is where grub is hosted but everything has to be complicated

this guy started out poking fun at australian politicians and ended up investigating the firebombing of his own home, during which he uncovered connections between the same politician he was making fun of + major organized crime
JasperDasper started out just curious why everything had suddenly become about trans people and questioning some of the sources used in a book. He came out of it, 4 years later, with a 5 hour long video that connects all transphobia to less than 60 people. (I'm not joking. literally every single transphobic rhetoric and bill passed is because of these 50 or so people.)
If you wanna watch it I cannot recommend it enough; I just warn that it covers a LOT.

Something we all need to come to grips with sooner rather than later, is that AI is here to stay. Whether we like it or not, it’s pretty much entrenched itself into our day-to-day lives be it through using it ourselves (I do use Claude from time to time as a tool), through workplaces pushing it to increase efficiency, or computing companies like Microslop shoving it into your system. Artificial intelligence is a real thing, it’s here to stay (at least for now).
It’s now the question of, if you’re using it, HOW are you using it.

I kinda want to switch to Linux but I’m scared cuz I’ve used Windows for my whole 23 years of existence
most people who've switched to linux have used windows for their whole life in the past
there is a learning curve, yes, but its not as steep as you'd imagine
you can do it
and people are there to help you if you need it
start off with a simple user friendly distro, personally i suggest linux mint but you'll hear many other opinions and thoughts on the matter if you do even very little research
and if you find any issue im sure the great majority of linux blogs would love to help!
using something like linux mint can give you a near identical windows experience without all of the bloat, ai, and spyware. i’m the kind of person to use the terminal for everything, but i have a number of friends who only use linux but never touch the terminal, it’s very doable!!
I’ve actually used the terminal to try to get rid of some of the bloat that won’t go away (like Copilot), so maybe Linux won’t be so scary. Granted I just copy commands once I know what they do, but still. I need to look into how it behaves with stuff like multiplayer games, because I don’t want it to trip anticheat measures.
I wish it was easier to find ways to play the game files you have without just pirating the game, it's so disappointing. It's like people who don't understand why you would use a DVD and DVD player when you can just pirate it. I just like the feeling of using stuff that I own, otherwise- why would I own it? In both cases I have the disks on the shelf next to me. I want to play the disks, not play other peoples.
