“but i really hurt jamie,  and i owe him an apology.  but… let’s be real.  he was always gonna find someone better than me.  it’s…”  he gestures to himself.  sweatpants, hoodie, neck brace, glasses and all.  “i’m a fuckin’ mess.  jules.  i’m a fall risk at thirty-seven years old.” 

she seemed lavish, and larger than life.  while greg was dragging his feet across the dirt, scuffing and staining his shoes.  so when he saw her,   he couldn’t help himself.. “can I ask… what happened?”

there’s a sense of protectiveness that washes over him when it comes to julia..  he knows what it’s like, to be a young adult trying to break into this business,  he knows what it’s liked to be signed to a huge company at a very early age and not feeling like you have the experience, and ‘road-knowledge’ behind you,  to push you forward to success.  not that he was in any position to give julia that kind of advice,  but he let himself be available to her,  in response.  she became the sister he never had,  but always wanted.   “We all have our secrets, don’t we?” he looks down at her, hands fiddling with his phone. “Like, where were you going on that flight?  everyone thought you’d be at all in, but you weren’t going there…”  he hummed, a rhythm to it. "everyone's entitled to a secret, and sometimes those secrets blow up in your face."

Greg sat on Melissa’s, or, technically, their hotel room bed.  Olivia Benson’s voice filled the silence between them. “you’re the one who offered the espresso beans, mel.” he chuckled, knees pulled close to his chest. Shoes on the bed, over the comforter. “you went off about the black Dahlia, and now I’m fuckin’ awake. i swear you were put on this earth to give me a headache.” This is ironic coming from the man who gave her, and himself, nothing but headaches for the past few days. “I think this episode is gonna end on a sad note, and I don't wanna go to bed sad, and i know you don’t wanna go to bed sad.”
