injuries  are  hard  on  anyone  but  perhaps  maybe  a  little  more  so  to  those  that  already  seem  to  be  at  a  disadvantage  in  the  world  such  as  they  live  in  .  isaac  is  lucky  to  be  alive  .    paul  speaks  though  out  of  habit  and  instinct  ,  never  really  having  to  use  his  signing  skills  until  recently  .  sure  he’d  use  them  out  during  missions  but  that  was  few  and  far  between  .    he  can  see  the  train  of  thoughts  trying  to  determine  exactly  what  it  is  he’s  said  and  instantly  paul  feel  very  sheepish  so  he  sighs  and  signs

“Dad I’m fine honestly you don’t need to worry.” Gracies says before she sees the look on his face. She knows that he isn’t going to back down so she sighs and lifts up the side of her shirt to show him the black and purple bruising on her side. “I was teaching them all the stuff you’ve taught me over the years. You know that the fighting ends up with a couple bruises I’m fine dad you need to stop worrying so much.”

but  she’d  make  sure,    they  wouldn’t  take  her  home.  they  wouldn’t  take  away  the  people  that  she  loved.  she’d  fight  until  her  last  dying  breath  to  keep  them  safe,  to  keep  them  alive.  gloved  hands  wipe  her  face,  turning  attention  now  to  the  boy,  who  had  made  his  way  into  the  room  with  them.  familiar  hat  atop  his  head,  that  large  grin  upon  his  features,  shone  brightly  just  like  his  fathers.    “  this  is  jesus.    ”    too  young  he  had  been  when  they  had  left,  but  now  plenty  of  memories  to  be  made,  plenty  of  time  to  catch  up  on  everything  they  had  missed.    

the  hesitant  leader  of  hilltop  isn’t  one  for  displaying  too  many  emotions  .  he’s  caring  with  a  big  heart  but  he’s  always  able  to  keep  his  composure  .  the  attack  on  him  ,  though  ,  he  left  him  raw  ,  unbalanced  and  unsure  of  everything  he  ever  thought  he  knew  .  paul  was  never  afraid  of  anything  and  now  .  .  .  he’s  afraid  of  it  all  (  not  that  he’ll  easily  admit  it  )  .  nightmares  comes  and  he  has  flashbacks  when  certain  situations  arise  .  the  doc  calls  it  ptsd  ,  he’s  reluctant  to  agree.  paul  sees  her  standing  there  and  it  almost  doesn’t  feel  real  .  after  all  this  time  ,  maggie  has  come  home  .  tears  well  in  his  eyes  at  the  thought  of  what  hilltop  was  and  what  it  is  now  and  just  how  much  he  missed  her  .

     it’s   not   often   that   they   see   people   from   the   other   communities.      everything   has   felt   so   DIVIDED   lately,   any   chance   to   see   her   old   friends   brought   JOY   to   the   queen   of   the   kingdom.      ❝   of   course   i   did.   ❞      a   smile,   and   she   opens   her   arms   for   a   quick   embrace.      carol   had   a   feeling   though   this   wasn’t   just   a   FRIENDLY   VISIT.      these   days   they   didn’t   travel   out   of   their   way   unless   the   message   was   important.      ❝   what   brings   you   by,   jesus?      should   i   be   WORRIED?   ❞

                  he  sits  by  the  fire  in  the  back  room  of  barrington  .  so  much  swirling  through  that  mind  of  his  ,  but  it’s  the  pain  that  keeps  him  awake  tonight  .  he  has  nightmares  that  he  tells  no  one  about  and  the  pain  is  lingering  in  his  shoulder  .  no  one  could  expect  him  to  heal  over  night  or  in  a  few  weeks  ,  it’s  just  hard  for  paul  to  feel  so  out  of  control  of  his  own  life  .  he’s  never  come  so  damn  close  to  death  before  and  it’s  shaken  him  to  his  core  .  his  gaze  fixates  on  the  flickering  flames  enough  to  put  him  in  a  slight  trance  that  he  barely  registers  her  presence  or  her  words  .
