I’m so grateful the Bible doesn’t hide the failures of those who were used in mighty ways. The people God chose struggled with sin and the hardships of life. And yet even through their imperfections our mighty God did amazing things.

A widow came to Elisha with nothing left but debt and despair. Her husband, a servant of the Lord, had died, and now the creditor was coming to take her two sons as slaves. Elisha asked her, “What do you have in the house?” She answered, “Nothing except a jar of oil.”
To her, it was almost nothing. To God, it was enough.
Elisha told her to borrow empty vessels from her neighbors, not just a few. Then she was to shut the door behind herself and her sons and pour. So she obeyed. One small jar began filling many. Vessel after vessel received oil until every empty place was full. When there were no more jars, the oil stopped.
Elisha told her to sell the oil, pay her debt, and live on the rest. Her emptiness became the place God multiplied.
Insight: God did not ask her for what she lost. He asked what remained. Lesser-known truth: the miracle happened behind a closed door, away from public eyes. Hebrew: Shemen means oil. Keli means vessel. Chov means debt. Almah or isha can refer to woman, but almanah means widow. God filled what she was willing to bring empty.

John 4:13-14 NIV 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
