Two flowers from my spring garden— the gentle dogwood and the quiet white camellia— each carrying its own shade of light and silence.

The dogwood opened softly toward the sky, its pale petals holding a tender trace of the season’s beginning. Nearby, the white camellia bloomed with a calm, timeless grace, as if gathering the stillness of the garden within its layered form.

Seeing them together reminded me that spring does not arrive all at once. It appears in small moments— a shift of light, a single bloom, a quiet breath of warmth returning to the heart.

I allowed each gesture to appear without intention, letting the energy shape the surface on its own terms. Before the early summer light arrived, my garden held two gentle moments of spring— the vivid bloom of the azalea and the soft purple of murasaki-hanana.

The azalea opened with a confident brightness, as if greeting the season with its full voice. In contrast, the murasaki-hanana appeared quietly, its delicate petals blending into the fresh green around it, like a whisper carried by the wind.

Looking back at these two colors now, I’m reminded that each flower has its own way of marking time— some bold, some subtle— yet both leave a quiet trace that lingers long after the season has passed.

Memory of the Galaxy This painting emerged through a quiet, intuitive process—an automatic drawing guided by a subtle presence that felt as if it drifted from the far edges of the cosmos. Each gesture formed layers of texture, like fragments of stardust or traces of ancient light suspended in silence. I have just added my new abstract painting “Gifted #2” to my BASE shop, MANO ART SHOP.

This piece was created through an automatic process, allowing my body to move freely while receiving inspiration from the universe. By emptying my mind and letting go of ego, I felt as though a quiet, guiding energy was flowing through me and onto the canvas. The title “Gifted” reflects the sense of a divine gift — something innate, something given rather than made.

The signature is placed on the back of the canvas, honoring the feeling that the work was created through me rather than by me.

A fixative has been applied to protect the oil pastel surface, though it is not completely permanent, so please handle the artwork gently.

In a quiet corner of my garden, two different kinds of light appeared this spring. The dandelions, simple and easy to overlook, glowed with a gentle strength among the grass. Nearby, the pale yellow tulips opened softly, catching the light like small lanterns.

These flowers may be ordinary, but together they created a moment of calm beauty—reminding me that even the simplest things can brighten a season.

My father, Yasuhiro Mano — a Japanese-style painter and artist of MANO ART STUDIO — created this forest sketch in mid‑February. He spent six quiet hours in the winter woods, listening to the wind, watching the shifting light, and capturing the atmosphere exactly as it was.

For many years, he was known for his paintings of abandoned houses. But as those motifs have become rare, he now devotes more time to the forest, returning again and again to sketch directly on-site. He never paints from photographs. He believes that the breath of a place can only be captured by standing there, feeling the cold air, and letting the landscape speak.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of his artistic journey. I hope this sketch carries a small piece of the quiet world he has spent a lifetime observing.

This piece reflects my ongoing exploration of silence, movement, and the subtle dialogue between the inner landscape and the wider universe. In this stillness, color begins to breathe, and the wind finds its own form.

These verbena blossoms appeared quietly in the gentle light of spring, their small purple petals gathering like a soft, hand‑sized bouquet. There is something calming in the way they bloom— unhurried, delicate, and full of quiet presence.

As the light touched each petal, I felt a moment of stillness open inside me, a reminder that beauty often arrives without asking for attention. Just a quiet breath of color, soft enough to change the mood of the day.

＊I first introduced this flower as Verbena, but it is actually Otome-zakura (Primula). They look very similar, and I’m glad to learn its true name.

Next month, I will be participating in the JCAT “WABI-SABI” Exhibition at Noho M55 Gallery in Chelsea, New York.

This year marks my 11th year with JCAT. Throughout this time, the team has supported us artists with dedication and warmth, and I am grateful to join this exhibition once again in one of the most inspiring art districts in the world.

I will be exhibiting during the C Team period (mid–late June). My work for this show is an S10-sized abstract acrylic painting that blends the quiet depth of Wabi-Sabi with contemporary pop elements.
