Hey, Last Call won an Ursa Major award for dramatic short work! Thank you!!
All credit really belongs to Willow Wilde and Bryan Teoh for the music, Fable Siegel and the entire team of artists who worked on it, and to Olan Rogers and Glitch Productions, of course!
Finally our son is home!!!
Do have any advice for a young animator who wants to make their own indie animation one day? It's called Paranautical.
Spend some time working on collaborative animation projects - get to know what it's like being part of a crew. Get familiar with what an animation pipeline is like, what tools you'll need, what roles need to be filled. Be a good teammate and make connections with other artists you can reach out to when it's time to start hiring your own crew.
If you're going to launch with a crowdfund, or if you're going to drop your premiere or pilot episode on YouTube , do some audience building first. Share your development work, talk to people about what you're doing, livestream. Project development and audience building take time. It's not something you do in a month. Or even within a year, typically. If you're serious about making a series, or an animated film, settle in for a long term commitment. Remember you don't have to rush it, and it'll be better if you don't rush it.
Don't forget the administrative side of things - production management, tracking tasks and deadlines, accounting, payroll, software licenses, file storage. Budget. Keep your scope reined in. Work out fair pay rates for cast and crew. Plan for extraneous, unpredictable expenses. If you don't know what you're doing in these areas, either keep your project small enough that you don't have to do a lot of it, or hire people who have experience with this stuff.
If you haven't produced any completed animation of your own with a full team before, start out small. See what it's like making just a minute or so of completed animation with a crew of you alone, or you plus a couple of others. Use this to learn some lessons, find your voice and style, and smooth out your pipeline. Or just focus on producing an animatic with a strong script first. You can figure out how to bring it to completion later. Work your way up to big things - don't try to start there without experience. Even if you raise a sizable budget with crowdfunding, it can disappear very, very quickly if you aren't careful and realistic about your production plan.
All that that, I wish you success! I hope you get you make your indie project!

Mordecai and fashion trends
I only realised when I saw this frame that Mordecai wears a detachable collar
The 1920s were the decade men began to shift to attached collars which are the norm today (see video below at 9:37). Though they where still available, especially by the end of the decade, it was generally only older men or the wealthiest who would be seen wearing them
Its interesting Mordecai chooses the more conservative fashion despite being 28 at the time of the main comic which occurs in 1927.
Could be a nod to his more formal buttoned down nature
Or it could be because, when he first arrived in St Louis, Atlas provided him with his own second hand clothes, and as an older man his shirts were likely this style
So thats what Mordecai got accustomed too, even when Mitzi arranged for new ones that actually fit his slimmer build
Or maybe he just finds it easier for laundering blood stains to be able to change the collar and not the whole shirt ;)
Also worth noting that Mordecai's dapper fashion sense does not stick entirely to the older school, as his trousers are much slimmer in "Inegnue" set in 1921, six years earlier than the main series in 1927, where the pilot episode shows he has started wearing much wider ones
This reflects another trend in the middle of the decade where trousers began to shift from the slender "drainpipe" style of the Victorian/Edwardian era and began expanding , a trend started by rebellious students at Oxford University with "Oxford Bags", though most (and certainly Mr Heller) avoided the more extreme bagginess of many of those
As well as being wider this was when they began to introduce pleats to provide more room for the thighs
Mordecai seems to have been on top of this fairly new fashion trend fairly early, including it in the matching suits for himself and Viktor for the 1926 New Years party
It is always interesting to note these fun details in the evolution of mens fashion in any history inspired series, expecially one set in the dapper 1920s!
2025 was a rocky one but, uh, hang in there. Happy New Year!

YGO REANIMATE 2 - CALL FOR ANIMATORS
(Banner art by Bam) 📢Let’s Re-Animate an entire episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series📢
Yu-Gi-Oh! Reanimate 2 is a collaborative non-profit project where every participants will reanimate a shot of an episode of YGO The Abridged Series (with the courteous permission received from LittleKuriboh himself) in however they desire!
We’ll be recreating Episode 77 - Loopy In The Sky With Duel Disks. It will include the ending credits based on the 2nd YGO Duel Monsters end credit.
This project is open for all animators of any skill (student, hobbyists, professionals. That also mean those who don't have much experience can apply, just as long as you have proof that you can do the work). Each animator can work with any medium they want: paper, digital, stop-motion, CG, pixel, etc, as long as it lines up with the shot given! Shots are assigned first come, first served and shots will begin to be distributed on September 15th 2025. There are over 250 shots in this episode, so there’s plenty of shots to go around. If you know anyone who might be interested in this, spread the words! Thank you and HAVE FUN!

This project has no affiliation with Kazuki Takahashi or any entity officially connected to the YGO franchise in any fashion. This is purely a free, fan-based project for animators. Not to mention, 2026 will mark not only the 10th anniversary of YGOReanimate being hosted for the first time, but it also marks the 30th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh! AND the 20th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series. Thus, ideally, we're aiming for 2026 release. If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to send ask or email [email protected]. My Progress as an Animator Over Time
It's been a decade, huh? Thank you so much for the continued support over the years! It's time I start the next chapter of my life with Studio Phuico @studiophuico. See you soon! Support Studio Phuico at: ► https://patreon.com/phuijl ► https://ko-fi.com/phuijl/tiers (Note that not every single one of my animations are included here. 3D animations are not included since this is purely focusing on my 2D animation) *Error updates: the Lackadaisy shot was done in 2024, not 2023. Rise of the TMNT shot was done in late 2019, hence not 2020.
Sometimes it takes a few iterations to get there!

audiences have no idea how to be uncomfortable anymore
watch movies that make you uncomfortable read books that make you uncomfortable go to plays that make you uncomfortable watch tv that makes you uncomfortable look at paintings and sculpture and artwork that makes you uncomfortable. it is spiritually and morally and ethically and artistically really really good for you. think about why you are uncomfortable. what biases do you bring to art? what biases does the art bring to you? how do you reconcile this? how does your worldview grow and expand and change? all this and more will be answered and available to you if you just engage with art that does not coddle you and treats you like an intelligent human being that can sit through discomfort
