maybe its when gabriels playing civilian during an akuma attack again, and carapace happens upon him openly berating adrien for trying to help someone to safety or something

and well, nino's already been openly irritated with him...so he heads over in his turtle costume and tells gabriel agreste, to his face, hes a sad little clone of colonel sanders dressed up like an elmers glue bottle that cant parent for shit, and he takes adrien while telling ladybug she should take gabriel elsewhere

adriens a bit confused about the whole thing, but he does appreciate having someone stand up for him. carapace assures him he'll come check up on him after the akumas been captured and winks before heading back to the fight

he gets carried away as chat, yes, and i wish hed snap out of that as well, but plain old adrien agreste? hes just not that kind of person.

he was raised to shut up and look pretty. of course hes not going to be outspoken about lila, he has to maintain that perfect pretty model boy persona. i dont think im too far off the mark by saying adriens the kid who thinks hes the mature one but really he was forced to grow up fast, so he tries to handle things in what he thinks is a "grown up" way.

and to an extent, as much as we dont like it in regards to lila, hes kind of right. his solution(at first) is to seperate yourself from drama thats eating away at you. not engaging in things that are taxing for your mental health is such an adrien agreste thing to do because of his upbringing. he couldnt yell at people and out them when theyre being terrible to him or other people, hes had to find other ways to cope

when he does engage lila its because he sees that method did not work, and marinette is still getting hurt over the whole thing.

i get drama is the center of fanfiction, i really do, but im just tired of seeing fics that relentlessly punish him for this. the way i see it, the shows writing is setting up adrien as a ticking time bomb. he WILL blow up..catastrophically eventually, and honestly, wouldnt that be much more fun for drama?
