The (literal and metaphorical) closest I’m getting to NDP this year. As a child, my favourite part of the parade was the fireworks display. I’d stare enraptured at the bursts of colour that would light up the sky. My enjoyment of the fireworks gradually waned over the years as they not only went on for longer but also seemed to be employed at all other junctures of the parade. (Even during daylight. Seriously guys, what for?) Call it Stockholm Syndrome or one too many knocks to the head, but as time has gone by I’ve come to regard the parade segment as my favourite; it’s reassuring to see that brownface incidents and near riots over $54 phones aside, this lion still has sharp claws.
