It was a selfish thought, and one Tyler immediately regretted.
When half the Hufflepuff team graduates had started spreading messages around about a friendly game between old players, Tyler had sighed heavily. He had rather hoped all his worrying over Jeremy up in the air, flying about like a lunatic, risking his life and health every second, was done with once they graduated. Jeremy liked to play but heād never talked about going pro, it was one of the many things Tyler loved about him, that his boyfriendās pursuits for happiness were a lot less dangerous and a lot more wonderful- who didnāt want to date the trainee baker who volunteered at the animal shelter every other weekend? But this game had been bad news, the moment Jeremy brought it up, Tyler heart sank. And then it lifted, almost immediately, when his boyfriend proceeded to add that playing the weekend that suited everyone else was just not suitable- heād promised to cover for someone at the shelter and couldnāt budge on his timing. Tyler had tried not to look too pleased, but tried less to not look disappointed when Jeremy suggest they go and watch anyway, heād had to duck out if the game ran too long but heād like to show his support. So theyād gone, hand in hand, Tyler had brought a hefty book to read through, with his head on Jeremyās shoulder and his arm linked through Jeremyās. When Jeremy had to leave, Tyler was ready to leave too, only to furrow his brows when his boyfriend insisted he stay and watch the end of the match, to tell him what happened and so he could meet up for drinks with everyone later. Reluctant, but very unable to decline when Jeremy wrapped him up tight for a minute or so and pressed dozens of kisses to his mouth, he slunk back down onto the bench- a little weak in the knees now anyway- and reluctantly agreed to watch the end of the game.
Which is when he had his selfish thought, about fifteen minutes later, when Zora came flying of her broom and rolled onto the floor.
Thank Merlin, Jeremyās not playing.
Selfish.
But brief.
Tyler had been right at the front of the stands- not anywhere near as high as the ones at the castle- and when Zora came off her broom, Tyler was up out of his seat and running across the grass to fall on his knees beside her. He hadnāt realised he cared that much, until that very moment, had rather lost track of when theyād become friends. It just sort of happened, largely through Jeremy and sped along by Zoraās persistence, she had never let Tylerās quiet and secretive nature scare her away like other people had. If he didnāt share, they she shared for the both of them, if he could feel his comfort zone being pushed, she charged head first ahead of him to assure that nagging in the back of his head that all was well, at times when heād felt out of place amongst Jeremyās Quidditch friends and found himself sipping at drinks awkwardly at the back of the group, sheād shuffled on back and asked him questions about all sorts of things he liked- even if he was often sure she didnāt care much about them herself. It just sort of happened, she grew on him, he found her charming and her energy contagious, and when she rolled off onto the floor, he was genuinely scared for a moment.
āZora? Are you alright?ā He was scared to touch her, scared to roll her over, when she was faced away from him with her legs splayed out and grass clinging to her clothes. Tyler bit at his lower lip, shifted up on his knees and leaned over to try and see her face.Ā āZora?ā
āOuch.ā
Her face screwed up into a grimace before an eye peeked open, a groan leaving her as she rolled onto her back. She squinted up at the sky, eyes looking from side to side for a moment before they settled on him. Her legs shifted into a more comfy position and she tucked a hand back to rub the back of her head. She was ok. And Tyler was so immediately relieved that he didnāt think when he cupped her face in his hands, leant over her properly and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
āYou idiot, are you hurt?ā
āTyler!ā His name left her in a surprised cheer, and shortly after a grin broke out across her face as she jabbed a finger at his chest.Ā āLook at your face, are you that worried? You kissed me and everything... You like me! You are completely worried about me, look at you, thereās no use denying it now, weāre basically best friends.ā
She was ok.
And Tyler was regretting it already.
His brows furrowed as he pulled his hands away from her, folded them across his chest and let out a long sigh. She was never going to let him forget this, no doubt sheād tell Jeremy all about it too, and when Jeremy started gushing thereād be no end to how flustered Tyler could become. He was doomed.
āFriends wouldnāt tease each other about this,ā Tyler muttered, trying to sound casual.
Zora only laughed,Ā āOh yes they bloody would!ā
