During all my visits to Rajasthan since 2006, I have never seen such clouds. I should have sensed something then, looking back now it might have been an omen of the pandemic to come a week later. Presently we have six sewing centers in two states of India, serving both the Hindu and the Muslim communities. In these sewing centers, young women learn a trade while also making clothing for their families. The centers are located in the rural areas, where young women have only one option normally, marriage and a family. At this moment, due to COVID-19, the work is on hold. For eight weeks of quarantine I was blessed enough to be hosted by my friend’s family. During the quarantine I was able to walk the land around the village. This negative was exposed one week before the pandemic gripped the world in early 2020. This young girl’s school is a traditional Islamic school located in a rural village. She and her friends attend only the school and do not attend the government school.
