a christmas present
a light-hearted christmas-inspired james potter/lily evans drabble by yours truly, dedicated to my very own lily, @zinones. merry christmas, love. <3
Her touch wasnât but a feather lightly grazing against his skin, and yet it was enough to startle James awake. He was at once brought into consciousness very vivdly, and the first thought that came to mind then was one of five words, over and over and over.
We are going to die we are going to die we are going to die weâ
They were living in a time of war, and his mindset was quick to jump to that of a battlefield. He reached for his nightstand and for his glasses so that he could see, but when he searched her eyes for an answer, what he found was a hint of amusement and mischief that very much mirrored what had come to be known as his trademark. At first, her hand had been on his arm but, as it traveled suggestively to his chest and tightened a grip around the fabric of his shirt, understanding came to him. The hint of a smirk played at the corners of his lip.
âWhat time is it?â He asked nonchalantly, playing at pretend disinterest.Â
She didnât answer, lips too busy finding their way around his neck to muster any sort of coherent sentence. His lack of eloquence wasnât too far off from hers: all the reaction he gave at first was an exclamation of surprise, but it quickly turned into a sigh of pleasure as she bit into his skin urgently and with little care for any possible consequences â namely the purple shadow of bruising that was certain to appear in the morning.
âGet laid oâclock it is, then.â He couldnât help but let out, pressing the words to her shoulder as he kissed her exposed skin. He was delighted to find that she stopped on track to let out a burst of laughter that lit up her face like a Christmas tree. It was all the incentive he needed to keep on making his quips even as his hands came up to her waist, lifting the delicate material of her camisole in the process. âIâd like to say Christmas came early, Evans, but it is very late.âÂ
He knew then and there she would push back, and it wasnât more than a heartbeat before he could say he wasnât disappointed. Lily first reached for his spectacles and placed them back where they wouldnât be in the way. When she looked back at him, she had as much of a serious expression as one could muster in such circumstances. âMerlin, Iâm hoping there will be no coming early today.â
