matthias in fact does not understand the words that are coming out of nina’s mouth.
or,
matthias and nina meet on vacation and matthias can’t speak kerch or english or whatever language you want them speaking but they’re both stubborn enough to keep hanging out anyway. so somehow it works until one of them figures out the other’s language.
