So like I'm not an economist and I don't spend a lot of time thinking about economic indicators or that kind of shit at all, but I will say nothing has ever made me go, "Oh this country is in TROUBLE" more than seeing a construction crew this past week where the median age had to be 55.
Imagine that one meme of old men standing around watching a construction site and then reimagine it with the all old men now wearing orange vests and they are working the site. It looked like that.
And like I don't actually know what this means about the country, whether people can't afford to retire or there just aren't any young men to work construction or... no I don't know. I don't know what it means.
But I know that it's bad. As a lay person, I know this cannot mean a single good thing is happening in this economy. Something has gone drastically wrong.
And as a driver watching a white-haired wrinkled ass man with a bent back shoveling gravel, it felt bad. It felt real bad. Grandpa should be at the kafeneio not on the road crew
