Panda’s Notes: Heya! Since this is one of my favorite games, and the twists and turns are kinda the important part, I’m going to let you know that this story, even in its roundabout way, contains major spoilers for several endings of “Zero Escape: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors”. For those continuing, I hope you like it. Special thank you to @rosileeduckie for letting me bounce these ideas off of them. >w<
Ace chuckled darkly, his grip on the golden gun never shaking as he smirked at Snake.
“Ah, so you’re going to kill me.” He repeated the threat he’d been given. “Please do. Come now, I’m waiting.”
Junpei watched Snake’s fists clench, and he took a step forward to touch his arm as he spoke. “Don’t do it! Don’t listen to him, Snake!”
Seven shouted from behind him too. “Stop it, kid! He’s screwing with your head!”
Ace sneered, pulling the weapon away from Lotus’ temple. “Is there a problem? What are you waiting for, boy?” He practically crooned, thumbing the hammer as if weren’t already out. “Don’t you want me to send you to join your sister?”
Snake’s eye twitched, and his hands shook with rage.
Junpei clutched at his sleeve. “Don’t! Snake!
Seven tried again too. “Don’t do it!”
But Snake could no longer hear them. Snake could no longer hear anything. The sound that left his throat as he lunged into a sprint was tangled somewhere between a roar and a wail: guttural, vicious, and agonized.
The gun should have leapt as it fired. Lotus should have screamed in terror.
Instead, Ace suddenly stepped forward, the revolver already flung to the side as he used both arms to intercept Snake’s lunge. Snake’s rage-filled face shifted to confusion at the sound of the gun clattering across the floor, but he was unable to stop himself when Ace grabbed onto him and pulled him under one arm. His hands found purchase against Snake’s robes as they curled into claws and scribbled fingers against his ribcage.
Snake shrieked, his legs flailing as laughter forced its way out of his mouth.
“Cut!” A new voice echoed through the ‘incinerator’, and everyone standing inside finally relaxed and let themselves laugh at the display in front of them. “Guys, seriously?”
“Put me down!” Snake cried out, managing to get his feet back on the floor and trying to pull backwards. He yelped and flailed as he was suddenly released, almost immediately taking the opportunity to slap playfully at Ace’s arm. “Not cool, sir!” He tried to sound scolding, but his pale face was dusted red, and giggles still fell from his mouth.
“I’m sorry, really…” Ace hummed, not sounding it in the least as he casually blocked the brunt of the light hits. “I had to, you see.”
“Oh, you ‘had to’.” Snake scoffed, punching his arm.
“I did! It was an idea totally of my own making and not at all suggested by anyone who may or may not be in this room.” The man insisted, smirking slightly as Junpei tiptoed up to him and slipped a twenty-dollar bill into his palm.
“Mm-hm…” Snake huffed with a grin of his own, and Junpei nearly flinched when his eyes fell on where he was standing.
The director waved their hand, standing up on their chair. “Back to one, everybody! Let’s get this right!”
There were a few more chuckles and hints of chatter, and Junpei crept back to Snake’s other side to help put him back on his starting mark.

Junpei watched Snake’s fists clench, and he took a step forward to touch his arm as he spoke. “Don’t do it! Don’t listen to him, Snake!”
Except, it wasn’t Snake’s arm that Junpei’s hand landed on. He’d touched his side gingerly, a similar motion: interchangeable.
…Until Snake was laughing again.
“K-Knock it off! Junpei, I know that’s you!” Snake squeaked, grabbing the offending hand by the wrist and using his free hand to grab Junpei’s hip.
“Cut! Junpei!” The director called with a laugh before they could hide it.
“I didn’t do anything!” Junpei lied, giggling himself as he tried to push Snake away.

Seven shouted from behind him too. “Stop it, kid! He’s screwing with your head!”
Ace sneered, pulling the weapon away from Lotus’ temple. “Is there a problem? What are you waiting for, boy?” He shifted one foot, the smile on his face appearing less than sinister for just a second. Lotus’ face seemed a little redder, and she tried to hide her face.
“You’d be smart to stop your squirming, missy.” Ace said firmly. As firmly as he could when a playful smile had taken over his face. Any eagle-eyed crew could have spotted from the beginning of the take that his hand was in the wrong place. Instead of gripping her right arm and pinning her to his chest, he’d slipped his fingers just underneath her arm. Much harder for anyone to spot was the way he twitched them every few seconds while giving his lines.
Of course, it was clear by now the take was bad, but—
“Pfft—Hah!” She barked out a short cackle that got the others laughing back at her. Snake rolled his eyes and shook his head, and Ace smiled almost apologetically. She wrenched in his grip and purposefully stepped on his foot to make him let go before spinning on him and punching at his arm. “You bastard! Fucking goofing off all the time!” She complained, her smile still sticking as she shoved him.
The director slapped their face with the script folder while a few crew members were laughing beside them. “Guys, please! You can have tickle fights at the hotel; we’ve got three other scenes today!”

“Ah, so you’re going to kill me.” He repeated the threat he’d been given. “Please do. Come now, I’m waiti—No, wait, Lotus, wait!!” His voice suddenly broke into rough, bubbling chuckles that shook his frame as Lotus shifted her right hand to dig into his stomach.
Snake groaned in frustration, throwing his hands up; of course, this left him open for Junpei to lunge up behind him and grab his hips.
“Cut!”
“Not so funny anymore, is it?” Lotus teased, clawing playfully at the sweater under Ace’s jacket.
Ace was laughing, so… Must have been a little funny.
