One of my favorite things about Dragon Quest IX is the Grotto Boss Atlas. His intro line at first just seems... what? I mean he literally saysย โWhy you no listen?! Atlas angry! Why you turn into tree?!โ I must admit, on my first run-through I just kind of blinked at that and moved on. But after meeting Fouleye and discovering that the Grotto Bosses are Zenus... it suddenly makes sense. Zenus is angry that Celestriaย wonโt listen to him about the humans. Heโs angry. And Celestria turned herself into the World Tree, Yggdrasil, in order to protect the planet from her own father.
So I may hate the guy but at the same time... it kind of makes me feel sorry for him. Just something I thought DQIX did really well. Little things like this are in all the Grotto Bossesโ dialogue, but this one is my favorite.
