Where is ERP today?
Most large enterprises across developed geographies already have ERP systems; due to which ERP has not seen much growth. This has resulted in software vendors looking to offer niche solutions and bundled offerings, with business intelligence. Large enterprises with sensitive data can take advantage of ERP modernization programs by fixing their existing systems.
With 45% of overall spend, North America leads this market and is followed by Europe with 25%. Many opportunities have been identified in emerging markets such as BRIC and MENA for first time ERP implementations. Japan, Korea, Singapore, and China have paved the way as early adopters of legacy ERP and cloud ERP in the APAC regions.
Many enterprises are adopting two-tier ERP deployments. The first one to do with bridging old ERP systems is seeing traction in some of the older ERP implementations while the second avatar is more in line with security requirements of organizations with mission-critical functions on-premise and some marketing functions on the cloud. However, it has been determined that many mature markets need complete updation of their ERP systems owing to the total cost of ownership of legacy systems.
Major ERP users are companies in sectors such as Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Utilities, Retail and Consumer Products, and the Public sector. As traditional verticals, many of them are still using old and heavy ERP systems that have been customized, patched, and integrated at different levels to cater to changing needs. Most of these verticals are typically looking to redo their IT plans from an organizational restructuring standpoint.
Newer verticals, which initially did not have many options to choose from such as Media and Retail, due to the nature of their business have a greater chance of moving to Cloud based ERP systems. The Manufacturing sector and other asset heavy industries that are in the phase of consolidation are likely to adopt the hybrid model keeping in mind the challenges associated with a web based cloud model.

Disruptive Technologies Impacting the Future of Automation
Businesses and IT Professionals are constantly discussing the journey towards disruptive transformation that most have embarked on or are yet to start. All companies that are looking at streamlining their business processes frequently discuss Business process management (BPM) and business process automation (BPA) which are a crucial part of that transformation. BPA enables businesses to simply reduce costs and improve efficiencies through prompt and accurate large task volume execution.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is one of the fastest emerging disruptive technologies in the automation industry. RPA is technology that automates tasks usually done repetitively or are keyed in by a person. RPA can imitate the end user by simulating user actions such as entering data, navigation within application, etc. and is often used to automate routine administrative tasks that typically require a human being to interact with multiple systems. RPA is evolved over time and can now transform the back and front oļ¬ce while improving business performance across the entire organization.
Furthermore, RPA serves as a crucial tool to empower staļ¬ with the opportunity to upskill and dedicate their time to mission critical work; the automation perspective with the feedback loop reļ¬nes the way the work is carried out and ensures that the mined insights are suitably deployed to ensure better resource provisioning and quicker turnaround time across the board.
From an industry standpoint, RPA will evolve not only back end applications but also areas where some level of customer service is involved. Additionally, RPA could serve as the answer to many industries where attrition is high allowing for higher human capital retention. Nevertheless, enterprises should see Robotic Process Automation as a supplement to existing approaches to business process management. RPA also comes in many forms, hence ļ¬nding the right automation solution is imperative.
