I did imagine that before their romantic relationship began both Roku and Sozin had their "first time" with somebody else. Roku has his first time with someone outside of the Fire Nation while he's mastering three different elements, and Sozin probably has multiple affairs with his concubines during their separation. So they both pretty much have many sexual experiences underneath their sleeves, and know what they're doing with each other in bed. But because it's them together, they were also quite shy guiding their flesh to one and another intimately. They managed to overcome their shyness together by ensuring and reassuring themselves that it's okay to make mistakes.

Sozin does want to be loud, he has this whole notion that he wants to make it publicly clear as possible that the Fire Lord and the Avatar are together and nobody should ever mess with them. But he respects Roku's wishes that they'll spend the night together quietly and in the end, he prefers it more over than what he thought he'd planned for that night.
