“I’m not going to lie, I’m honestly glad I took some time off,” she said with a shrug as she lugged the box into Zella’s apartment. “I haven’t been to the Philippines in so long. So much has changed and yet, so much has stayed the same, you know? Grandparents are still pretending that me being gay is just a phase like how my mother will probably never get married, my mom still thinks I’m 18 and might explode in a rage, flinging metal everywhere,” she said dreamily before letting out a grunt as she set the box by the kitchen counter. “Alright, so as per Filipino tradition, I was obligated to bring balikbayan boxes with pasalubong in them. So basically bringing as much of the Philippines as I can to your doorstep. So there’s a bunch of packed, frozen Chinese food, some Filipino fruits--we weren’t sure if you liked durian, but it’s in there, some snacks, treat, and a locally made blanket. I will warn you in advance that durian honestly smells like feet and I hate it, so chuck it outta here if you can’t stand it either.”
