So I'm having thoughts, those thoughts say that Char didn't ascend during the Zeknova like he and Amuro did back during the original Axis Shock event in Char's Counterattack. I'm thinking we've got another Gundam Phenex situation, which in the original UC timeline merged with its first pilot Rita Bernal.

So, I think Char merged with the Red RX-78-2, hence the reason why Shuuji can "hear it speak" which is beyond the normal shit that most Newtypes can do except in extreme cases like Unicorn or Phenex.
