From one badass warrior woman to another, it’s Boudica (or Boadicea, pronunciation may vary) from ‘The Deliverer’ and the hilarious con artist Zehra from ‘The Play’s The Thing’, Jennifer Te Atamira Ward-Lealand. This is one of the coolest interviews I’ve heard yet in terms of understanding New Zealand’s culture through this podcast and the guests that come on it.
It’s very interesting to me that some of the fandom view Boudica as one of Xena’s ex-girlfriends. For me that isn’t the case but then I’ve also said the same about M’Lila - wondering if Xena and her had a thing despite the language barrier. I guess it can work with Boudica.
HOSTS: “I have to ask you though, we've got to right? Like it’s a big part of the Xena fandom. This is my job. The subtext between Xena and Gabrielle is a big deal for some of us fans.
JENNIFER: “Yeah. Of course.”
HOSTS: “I imagine you understand that whenever a striking kind of alpha female, not dissimilar to Boudica, walks on the screen, we all kind of sit up a little bit. Some of us, and I don't want to say all of us, but some of us kind of view Boudica's character as being a bit of one of Xena's ex-girlfriends. Here's my evidence, Jennifer. Boudica can read Xena like a book. She knows immediately that Xena is very motivated by Gabrielle's safety. There's a deep mutual kind of respect, but also some really intense historical betrayal. I'm wondering, as the person who portrayed Boudica, what's your thoughts on that?”
JENNIFER: “Okay, well, I can tell you that it was not something that we discussed as an undercurrent. However, I think, and we will have all felt this for someone, when you meet someone who is in your match, there is a deep attraction. Whether that attraction moves into any sexuality is, it could or it couldn't. I think they see each other in each other, and that is really, really attractive.”
HOSTS: “What a great answer.”
JENNIFER: “There's a strength that you recognize in someone when you go, I know you, I get you, you're my people, or, I mean, I've seen it myself as a young woman going, I want to know you, and that is such, it's such a beautiful thing. So even if it didn't blossom into anything overtly sexual, never underestimate the depth that an attraction has. So I think seeing the qualities of somebody that you see in yourself or that match yours is a beautiful thing. So that's kind of really all I can say on that because, as I said, it was not an undercurrent that was ever discussed.”
HOSTS: “No, not explicit. Can I just say outside of the subtext, just seeing, as a Kiwi growing up, seeing Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Te Atamira, alongside Lucy Lawless, both holding swords and like, that was just something that blew my tiny little Kiwi brain. I remember just being like, is this real life? Like these two superheroes that are both New Zealand woman. Like it's just so cool.”
JENNIFER: “That's awesome. I'm so glad. I'm so glad that that really resonated with you. It's cool. I think that show did a lot of that kind of stuff for a lot of people.”
HOSTS: “Yes. Yes.”

SZEPESI CASTLE
“I've done a terrible thing. I didn't do it, but... I did it. I don't know how how it happened, or when it happened but I've fallen in love with someone I'm not supposed to be. I've fallen in love with someone I even shouldn't stare at her or fall in love with her, as they say. I can't even tell you, I can't tell you. Let alone telling, I can't even look at your face. I've no one to talk to other than you. I've no one to have a heart-to-heart chat or take advice from, and you know I'm not the type who easily takes advice. But this time it's different, for the first time neither my mind nor my heart is enough to explain this madness. This's madness. Every time I see her, it doesn't matter if I see her or not, every time she smile at me, when she lean on my shoulder and cry, do you know how that feels like? You know when I was a kid, when a nail with rust went down on my finger, now that nail sinks into my heart. I can't do it. Mom, I can't do it. I can't. I'm telling myself to stay away, I'm turning my back, I'm telling to myself to go. And then whatever happens I find myself with her again. I tell myself it's not good, but I can't take my eyes off her. My eyes, my heart... It's like my will, my mind, my logic is being pulled aside. Then it's only me and her. As if I've forgetten who I'm, as if I'd forgetten it was no good, and then for a moment it's just her and me. Her and me... Is that love, mom? Trying to be in that moment forever, is this love? Me and her. Us.”
A love story that began in the cemetery and was fulfilled there.
YağHaz's lovestory will always be my favorite from the all turkish series what ever I watched. Deniz Baysal and Çağlar Ertuğrul in Fazilet Hanım ve Kızları have such a good chemistry through the series, which bought me firsthand.
And this love confession it's just... wow. I can't have any word.
