I FORGOT TO ANSWER THIS EVEN THOUGH I THOUGHT ABOUT IT ALL DAY WHEN I GOT IT. 

Possibly most favorite myth creature is a selkie. The gender dynamics are traditionally not great, which makes it all the cooler when people find ways to subvert the storyline. I dig a good selkie story, but I will also be happy to throw hands with someone who tells is old school. 

Another fave is Scylla and Charybdis. How baller are they? Also I love a monster pairing. We know from Ovid that Scylla was a former water nymph who was cursed and that Zeus was pissed at Charybdis, but like....why did they pair up? It’s not like that’s just where they were when they were cursed. These two monsters like.....sidled up to each other in the ocean and basically were like, “soooooooooo is there room enough in this town for the both of us?” and the answer was YES. Love them. 

(Also, sidebar: “between a rock and a hard place” or whatever variation of that idiom you know does not apply to them, though everyone thinks it does. But think about it for a second....who would be the hard place here? and who the rock? neither is a rock and neither is a hardplace. One is a giant suction mouth monster whirlpool and the other is a six headed maneater. The saying comes from elsewhere but it has been sucked up, like everything else that wanders near Charybdis, by their sheer raw power. I am Into the fact that they stole an idiom by sheer linguistic charisma.)

I love an evil mermaid. Those are so great. If you haven’t read Into the Drowning Deep, pleeeeeease do so. 

I have always and will always be Into Werewolves. I had that Wolves period as a preteen and like finding out that the folklore roots of that tradition are abused wives murdering their husbands? I am INTO THAT. You thought werewolves were dudes, but that’s just modern films. The old folk songs are mostly “husband is walking home through the forest and a fights a wolf, gets home and his wife has the same injury” and like. dude. I am so here for that.

It’s usually called a temperature blanket! I tend to call mine weather blanket and temperature blanket interchangeably. :) 

A temperature blanket is a knitted or crocheted blanket with one row for each day of the year, with the colors of the rows based on each day’s temperature. I personally am using the daily high temperature in Stuttgart, where I currently live. Here’s a photo of what it looked like at the end of November:

48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be?

Oohh, starting with the hard hitting questions! I think I’ll go with an apple - can be sweet, but also tangy, good for eating straight from the tree, but also for cakes or juice and apple crumble and all kinds of delicious things! (I was tempted to be obnoxious and either say tomato or strawberry, for different reasons, but really, apple fits better anyways :p)

I think jewel tones - wherever there’s the most red!

98. favorite historical era?

Aaaaaall of them!!! Seriously, just give me a time machine! I’d love to see Ancient Egypt, perhaps under Queen Hatshepsut, or perhaps the Minoan Era on Crete, but if you make me choose one, I think I’ll go with Elizabethan England - Queen Elizabeth I, Shakespeare, Mary Queen of Scots, Ben Jonson, yes please!

big dogs or little dogs?

so seabs is a cage fighter who got into some gambling debt, got mixed up with the wrong people, and was told to throw his fight. he refuses. the mob dudes kidnap him. except after the fight that night he was supposed to meet up tazer, a cop who frequents the same diner as him. they’d got to talking one day and basically saw each other for coffee every morning, Brent sitting at the counter, reading the paper, Johnny stopping in before heading to the station. Johnny asked him out a few days ago. Their date was supposed to be that night, late night after Brent’s fight and Johny’s shift -- at what Brent now considers their spot. Brent doesn’t show up. Johnny thinks he’s been stood up and is pretty bummed. Until Brent doesn’t come in for coffee the next day, or the next. His guy tells him this is more than a blow off. So he enlists his partner and best bud Dan to help him investigate.
