Waiting for Zane nearby the food truck, Damien was shifting from foot to foot, his fingers playing with his hair as the nerves started building up. It was pretty much known throughout town that he was getting married, but he thought that he owed it to Zane to tell him in person. There were things that were never said between them, even if they were never really...a thing. Damien still wanted some closure. “Hey, man,” he greeted when he saw Zane approaching.

“Obviously once I had the brilliant idea of binge watching John Hughes movies, I knew you were the perfect person to contact.” Ivy beamed, glancing over at Zane as she took a long sip of her drink as they just wrapped up The Breakfast Club. “You know, I kind of wish I had that kind of friendship. Even that kind of experience in high school. Man, I was never in detention. I feel like I missed out.” She chuckled.

It hasn’t escaped Malcolm’s notice that Zane has been off lately--in fairness, very little escapes his notice in his kitchen--and although the younger man is doing an admirable job of putting on a brave face he’s not exactly fooling anyone.  He respects his cousin’s right to stew over whatever it is that’s on his mind in peace, but after a few days he determines that enough is enough.  “Kiddo,” Mal calls over the line once the post-lunch shift lull sets in, waving Zane over to the more secluded side of the bistro’s busy kitchen, “C’mere, help me prep these crème brulées.”
