Z-Depth Animation Test - Environment Vs Camera Movement
Comparison of my earlier test moving the camera through the environment and my preferred version of moving the environment pass the camera.
I much prefer the method of moving the environment. It allows the audience to be introduced to a visualisation, to absorb what it is they are viewing and to analyse its meaning. The method of moving the camera leaves more questions for the audience to answer as the imagery moves in and out of view. Again, this could be an interesting technique to explore, but for this experiment, as an individual component of the overall world of intangible phenomena, it is not necessary.

Z-Depth Animation Test with Cam
After adjusting the timing of the gallery appearing, I wondered what the effect would be in the gallery was appearing into view of the audience. To achieve this I moved the camera through the space. The result was gloomy, with the structure appearing and dissapearing as it passed by the camera. This eerie result is visually interesting and I can understand the aesthetic Alan Warburton was looking for in “Z”, but I’m not sure this is the direction I want to go. However, appearing and disappearing is an interesting notion to visualise the intangible.
